Guest guest
As an SLP, I can say that they need to perform it at their office because that is where all their equipment (devices) & testing materials are. I would bet they have too much to cart to the school. I would not recommend to push to move the eval location. You can certainly ask about their reasons. Usually the school SLP is in communication w/the Asst Tech team about the needs of a child. As far as you rights, they would be the same as w/any other school eval. Search for 's Law--they have good info. I 'm not sure of what my rights are under the circumstances. The eval is being performed at their office when I believe it should be at his school in order to be able to ask any questions about his needs and abilities to his teachers and SLP. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Guest guest
My little guy was tested at his preschool. Our district assisstive tech team came out and brought all of the equipment....from 1 button devices, up to the DynavVox V. Our son blew their minds...within 10 minutes he had navigated the DynaVox V and asked " can I please play with an action figure now? " We took home several different devices and tested them for about 2 weeks each....I highly suggest you ask to do the same. Guest guest
I'm sure they're not trying to inconvenience you! The AAC Eval my daughter had four years ago was at a very well known Rehabilitation Hospital. Its a 45 minute drive for me. But the Evaluator is the head of the dept there. She had an office FULL of devices, toys, more devices, old devices, new devices--if you can get to their office: it will help them get a much better picture of what your sons needs are if they have their full range of equipment at their fingertips. It would be annoying to you and them if they bring a few devices to his school and find out the one that would have absolutely perfect for his needs is back at their office! Just my experience!
