Ians writes: Is anyone aware of research pertaining to body mass and longevity with a distinction between lean vs fat mass? Ever notice how well age seems to have treated Arnold Schwarzenegger? I've seen photos from what appear to be the early 60s of him, and compared to x dozens of famous people I'm aware of having survived over that time, he seems to be the most unchanged of them all.

***Interesting question, Ian. I believe the answer is "no." I've looked for such research and have come up empty handed. In doing such studies, it has been as yet difficult to find subjects who have been lifting weights long enough and WITHOUT DRUG USE. Jack Lalanne is well into his 80s. He and his generation of non-drugged gym rats will be the ones to watch. BTW, Arnold is on kidney dialysis, presumably from his years of steroid use. (Yeah, he did that too.) He's also had a face lift, in all fairness. There are many all-natural weight trainers who are now well into their 60s and 70s, and a few who practice CR formally--many others who restrict calories just on instinct. Will they live longer? We shall see.
