Guest guest
Good afternoon! My son is speaking, sometimes in sentences. However, he tends to say what he says in as few words as possible. For example...instead of " I want milk. " It's " thirsty " or maybe " want milk. " Although we're very happy he's speaking, he's been at this stage for a while, primarily (I think) because we've been focusing on sounds like " f' and " k " , more the cvc or cvcv words than building phrases. Any suggestions for fun ways of building/expanding the utterances? He does drill, but we try to build the drill into games so he lasts at it longer. Thanks! .. _________________________________________________________________ The New Busy think 9 to 5 is a cute idea. Guest guest
funny that you bring this up, because just today my husband and I were discussing this very issue! Over the weekend my friends husband was commenting on how well my son is speaking and was telling my friend that he was blown away because he said a sentence. (people are actually counting the words in his sentences now...too funny). We realized at that moment that sometimes we let our son get away with just one word sentences.Even his ea does the same thing because it's what we're all used to.  We do ask for more a lot of times, but there are days that we don't realize he's getting away with the one word. When we're on the ball, we will repeat back what he says to us and wait. i.e. if he says " drink " we'll say " drink " and just look at him. Sometimes it just takes a look, other days we have to say " use more words please "  I don't care if he doesn't get the words right, i just care that he's getting used to using more words in a sentence. Some days repeating the one word back to him gets him angry, other days it makes him laugh. So, decide on what you think is a good number of words in a sentence to start and just model it from there. The fun way to do this would probably be by playing a board game that he thinks is fun. There are so many to chose from for every age range that it shouldn't be a problem to find one that you can turn into working on speech without them realizing it. ________________________________ From: michelle yates <michelle_yates@...> Sent: Wed, April 7, 2010 1:28:01 PM Subject: [ ] Question regarding speech  Good afternoon!
