Hello to all

I am so happy to announce the addition of De, to our staff.

, a former intern of mine, has the energy, excitement and enthusiasm,

that is at the core of the work we do and is fresh out of the PROMPT

training..

For those of you that don't know us:

The Speech Playroom targets those children with more serious speech deficits

(like apraxia and /or hypotonia) and language disorders related to the

autistic spectrum disorders and the residual syntax errors related to

apraxia. Our sp/lang therapy is performed in play - with acceptance and

fun, building on strengths of children and joining them in the behaviors

they NEED to have, until the behaviors are no longer needed. We help them

communicate in any way that works, with speech as the ultimate goal.

All therapists in the Speech Playroom are PROMPT trained. PROMPT is a

tactile cuing technique which cues the oral muscles required for speech

sounds. All therapists are mentored in the techniques by me (BH), with over

15 years experience with PROMPT.

We believe that parents and care-givers are the TRUE speech and language

therapists. Our therapy rooms are video monitored so that all can see the

sessions both to learn our techniques and to share their knowledge of their

child with us.

If all goes well, two wonderful women known to both and myself will be

returning to New York from CA. They are looking to join us also later in the

spring or summer.

Hope to see all, at one of the seminars.
