Guest guest
Just sent out a message regarding strokes and think this should be a topic we need to discuss as well as there has been around a 50% increase in strokes in children aged 5 years old up to adults aged 44 years old in the past decade. I don't believe the media is focused on this CDC study enough. For sure they focused on the links between diet soda risk for increasing strokes- but they left out that the average age of the over two thousand participants in that study were 69 years old!!! And...according to the CDC strokes decreased 25 to 28% in the past decade. (so guess not many grandparents are drinking diet soda!) The point is we need to know why are children in the past decade are now at an increased risk for strokes -that should be the focus! I suspect the risk is due to energy drinks which first entered this country via California in 1997! Hmmm about a decade ago! And some think kids aren't exposed to energy drinks. What if I told you baby's are even!! On facebook a friend I know said one person posted to her wall that she couldn't understand why her nursing infant was not sleeping...and when she went to the doctor he blamed it on her drinking energy drinks (which she said she drank because she was " so exhausted " ) The nursing mother said she didn't even think about it. I'm sure she's not the only one who doesn't think about it and is just exhausted and drinks the (I'm sorry but this is how I see it) CRAP! So are pregnant " exhausted " moms drinking this crap too? Just one can of an energy drink can change your blood and put you at an increased risk of heart attack or stroke if one is already vulnerable. If you are a parent that allows your child to drink Monster or Red Bull or any of that other crap -and one of my children's 14 year old friends who's mom is a doctor (!!) does allow her son to -you want to read the following. Because it's more boys that are affected by this than girls -and this group represents more boys that are " late talkers " with mulitfaceted neurologically based communication impairments than girls statistically speaking. Please read the blog I just wrote on this February 11th. I didn't even put it here thinking it wasn't a focus of this group....but due to 's friend who has a child that has already had 2 strokes that just ordered NV -and the rise in strokes in children from age 5- it should be something that this group is at least aware of. Should We Blame Soda or Energy Drinks For the Sudden Rise Of Strokes In Children? http://pursuitofresearch.org/2011/02/11/should-we-blame-soda-or-energy-drinks-fo\ r-the-sudden-rise-of-strokes-in-children/ And PS -the AAP Journal Pediatrics this Monday -3 days after I wrote the above blog, published a study outlining the risks of energy drinks for children. =====
