Guest guest
New Autism Research On Birth Spacing by Cyndi , Staff Writer New autism research suggests that there might be a link between birth spacing and this disorder. This preliminary study in California dealt with a half-million children. The study continued from 1992 to 2002 and data was analyzed on second born babies to the same parents of older siblings without autism. It was discovered that if children were born less than two years apart from a sibling, the second child had a higher chance of having a diagnosis of autism. More studies are needed before this link can be confirmed. Funding for this study came from the Wood Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. Researchers are trying to figure out why birth spacing has something to do with autism. One theory is that parents are more aware of any developmental problems when siblings are close together in age. The children are compared to each other and a red flag goes up when the second child is not progressing as fast as the first child. Another autism research theory is that it could be biological factors that are involved. When women are pregnant, they can be prone to vitamin deficiencies as the baby grows. Nutrients like folate and B vitamins can be depleted. If pregnancies are too close together, a mother may not get a chance to recover from nutrient deficiencies. Parents are having children closer together in recent years due to the fact that they are delaying having families until they are older. Low birth weight and prematurity can happen if there is not enough folate in a mother’s system. This autism research showed that the disorder was diagnosed in less than 1 percent of the time. There were 662,730 second-born-children studied and only 3,137 of them ended up with the syndrome. Other developmental problems and mild forms of autism like Asperger’s were not part of the study. Some of the things that were looked at were autism-severity, age of the mother and other risk factors. None of those things seemed to make a difference. For example, the same birth spacing effect was found in families with parents of all different ages. Other Government studies show that about 1 in 100 kids have autism-disorders. The March of Dimes is already telling people to wait a year after giving birth before getting pregnant. They also recommend that mothers take a multi-vitamin containing folic acid each day even if they are not expecting. This way, they can be healthy just in case an unplanned pregnancy happens. Guest guest
Autism--as all neurological disorders of unknown etiology in kids--- have more to do with the mother's toxicity level and the toxicity the kids are then exposed to after birth than anything else. " Birth spacing " causing autism is just one of those absurd statistical correlations ---an illusory correlation as they are known in scientific literature--but it always helps to throw the blame autism on other things and take people's attention away form our increasingly toxic environment--which is the real cause for all the metabolic and neurological disorders we are seeing in the most vulnerable populations--the young and the old. And all of us are affected--make no mistake--but the young have a developing immune and neurological system and cannot protect themselves--they are the most affected of all even if they do not all have autism--but let's not forget 1 in 6 children (very likely many more judging by how hard it is for my daughter to get a learning disability label in the school district even though her dyslexia is so obvious to us) according to public school records has a learning disability affecting speech and or behavior as well as learning--and this isn't just due to having some really affected kids clustered together skewing up results--it is across the board-across the social economic spectrum--it is affecting everybody--all races and all income and education levels From: martin7578@... <martin7578@...> Subject: Re: [ ] New Autism Research On Birth Spacing Date: Tuesday, February 15, 2011, 1:12 AM NONSENSE. MY BOYS ARE 32, 23, AND 12. THE YOUNGEST IS NON--VERBAL AUTISTIC.
