Hi,

We also live in North NJ. We see Dr. DeSouza in town and Sparta, ped

neuro. I like him but I don't think he spends enough time really observing our

son. He relies more on what I tell him. We have an appointment with Dr. Cargan,

another ped neuro in Mountainside, however he had an 11-month wait list --we are

going in August. I have heard very good things about him.

As for developmental ped, we have an appointment with Dr. Agin in NYC in May.

She only had a 3 month wait.

Both docs don't take any insurance, but Dr. Cargan is much cheaper than Dr.

Agin. So much for having any money left in savings!!

I would love to hear of any other docs you have been to.

Who to see? Someone reeeaally good with motor planning issues. I am in North NJ

and can travel a wee bit. My son has dx of verbal apraxia..global and sensory.

I was excited to call on one Ped. Neurologist to make an appt..only to find out

it is a ONE YEAR wait list!!!

Really would like a few names of good developmental peds that may give me a new

outlook and new info on what my child needs.

Thank you!

Okay, i feel like I am totally helpless and that I cannot get my son a decent

evaluation.

I feel he needs a very good speech eval AND others..yet the costs are

outrageous, and I dont have any idea how much insurance companies will actually

reimburse...we have a PPO thru BCBS, yet they wont tell me what is resonably

customary as far as price. I wont know how much i will be reimbursed until I

submit the claim.

Has anyone gotten a huge amount back?

The Dr Agin eval is $3000.

You can email me privately...i would just love to know...amd so i can make a

decision whether we can see these expensive specialists.

Thank you!!!

I'm pretty sure the amount you get back should be determined by your

out-of-network benefits. I currently have an HMO with BCBS with no

out-of-network benefits, which is terrible. I used to have a PPO with

out-of-network 80/20 so I would get back 80 percent. I did this for our first

speech eval, which was great! Now everything must be in network for me to get

coverage, but of course all the good docs don't take any insurance.

Hi Ivy,

I'm also in Northern NJ and took my son for a Developmental Pediatrician eval at

Hackensack University Medical Center's Institute for Child Development, which is

part of their ph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital. see:

http://www.thechildrenshospitalhumc.net/index.aspx?lobid=1032

I saw Dr. Huron, but was not thrilled with her, which is why i didn't recommend

her sooner. Better than nothing, though, i guess, and could at least get you in

the door sooner than 1 year. when i called there was a 3-month waiting list,

but they called often with cancellations and i was at an appt 2 weeks later.

They were in-network w/my insurance (i have no out-of-netwk benefits) and

provided me with all the procedure codes I needed to call my insurance ahead of

time to make sure it would be covered. They also provided their tax id# so i

could double-check with insurance that they are in-network. You could ask for

the same info from Valley Hospital, but the tax id they gave me came up as

out-of-network so i didn't pursue that further.

as for " reasonable and customary, " that is a term they use because reimbursement

rates vary in different parts of the country. the doctor/hospital billing dept

likely knows what is reasonable and customary and whether or not their fee falls

within that range for the insurance company. most (can't speak for all) dr's

fees fall w/i the guidelines.

feel free to email me privately if you'd like. good luck!
