Dear Francesca and All,

In our companion post of 5/25 “Regimen Changes provoked by * Laboratory

Evaluations in Molecular Medicine*” (see www.metametrix.com) we gave

examples of how information learned from this book has influenced our CR

regimen.

The Chapter on organic acids is an example of a subject we plan to explore

over the next several months. We're hoping that studying this chapter and

subsequent testing will reveal ways to more finely tailor our CR life/diet

to increase energy levels and uncover any detox irregularities.

The authors describe organic acids as a broad class of compounds used in

fundamental processes of the body. They use organic acids (obtained in

morning urine) for indications regarding:

o Mitochondrial energy production

o Functional nutrient deficiencies

o Excessive growth of fungi and bacteria in the gut (particularly

important for Cronies who eat raw foods)

o Undue toxic load and effects on detox capability.

For example, the authors give elevated citrate as a maker for ammonia

accumulation due to arginine insufficiency. Orotate elevation is cited as a

sensitive, corroborative marker for this condition.

There is much to be learned here. It will be exciting to get readings back

on the more than 40 organic acids included in the MetaMetrix profile.

and Averill
