As others have said, like every field, there are some good (even excellent)

Defeat Autism Now doctors and practitioners and others no so good. that is very

true in " mainstream " medicine too. I would be concerned about people calling

themselves " doctor " if they are not an MD, DO, ND etc. but in my experience most

Defeat Autism Now practitioners who are not doctors do not use the term doctor

but instead use " practitioner. " There are some excellent non-doctor Defeat

Autism Now practitioners, such as nutritionists . The most important thing is

to find someone who suits your personality, treatment style, comfort zone and

pocketbook. Look for someone who treats very individually - not just using a set

protocol on all children -- each child is different. Few take insurance (though

some do and in my experience in the area where I live few mainstream doctors

that I am willing to take my family to take insurance any more either unless

they are practicing directly out of a hospital practice - private practices are

refusing insurance more and more). Also, look beyond Defeat Autism Now doctors.

Some good practitioners are frustrated by Defeat Autism Now, finding that some

in the Defeat Autism Now umbrella/general protocol are, like many mainstream

doctors, not thinking outside the box on new treatments that step outside their

comfort zone (the Defeat Autism Now comfort zone is generally more cutting edge

than mainstream though) so don't limit yourself by thinking just " mainstream " or

" Defeat Autism Now " - many have success with traditional Chinese medicine,

herbs, neurofeedback, homeopathy, homotoxicology and other treatments that are

not part of the Defeat Autism Now protocol (some Defeat Autism Now practitioners

incorp these ideas too). GL, Kim

FYI, my understanding is they cannot use the term DAN any longer - there was a

diving association or something using it first!
