Guest guest
Hi Everyone; I'm easing into a CR diet, with the recommended tests, etc. I've studied Beyond 120 Years and Walford's other books to pin down exactly what I'm supposed to do. Here's my question: In his earlier books, Walford seems to recommend getting the nutrients (vitamins, minerals, fiber, amino acides) as high as possible (this doesn't seem to apply to protein or carbohydrates). However, in Beyond 120 Years, he doesn't seem to recommend that approach anymore, and recommends merely the RDAs or, sometimes, a higher amount--but not the highest possible amount. Somewhere in that book he said something about not wanting the body to take in more minerals (for example) than it needs, lest the body metabolize nutrients it really doesn't need, and thereby produce unnecessary oxidants and the like. Any comments on this apparent change of recommendation? What practice do the rest of you follow on this point? Thanks --

Hi : It's unfortunate that our information on optimal amts of nutrients is incomplete. It was just a few years ago that the recommedation of not overdosing on Vit A came out, for example. To be safe, I have stopped taking " extra " vitamins. Now my supplementation is only: some fish oil (on days when I don't eat fish), selenium now and then (only because I'm allergic to the natural source- Brazil nuts), alpha-lipoic acid and L-carnitine (the youth -promoting compounds recently discovered). However I do eat Total cereal almost every am which contains 100% of the MDA's. If you're confused, you're not alone.
