Guest guest
Are you moving from Illinois to here? Because I have several family members from there, and from what understand our rent/mortgages here in Texas are much cheaper. There are tons of duplex houses in and around Austin and I prefer that to an apartment complex. We homeschool, so I cannot help you with school districts, sorry L Peacefully yours, <http://www.homeschooljules.com/> ~homeschooljules " Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, but Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad. I have been doing some research and have learned that there are some pretty good areas around Austin as far as school districts go. My LO with apraxia is turning 3 in March. I am very familiar with the preschool program here for kids with delays and my older son briefly attended there (once I knew about it) and was really looking forward to having my younger son there, but now things have changed for our family and there's just not much work here for my husband. Anyway, I have managed to gather from other people that Eanes is the best school district in Austin proper but that it is also a very expensive area, and not real likely we are going to find some place affordable to live (we are going to have to pretty much abandon our condo here because on the rare occasion that a condo in this area has sold, they are selling for half of what we paid for it 7 years ago). So we are pretty much going to have to find either a rental house or a large apartment. I have also been told that Round Rock is comparable and a more affordable area. I have wondered also if anyone here has any recommendations on SLP's or support groups or any more info about what schools are best for our kids. I am hoping if this works out that this area is more friendly and we can find some additional support as even our support network here is almost not existent and we will be moving very very far from family. If nothing else, if you could just email me if you are from the area so that I have someone to bounce ideas off of when things come up....like if we find a house we think is good, I could ask you about the area or whatever. Just looking for some connections and info or possible source of info. Thanks so much!
Guest guest
Yes. When comparing housing costs, it really depends what area of IL you are coming from. I grew up in Central IL where homes are very cheap. The close in Chicago suburbs are about 2x the cost of where I grew up (when we first moved up here that was a very hard pill to swallow) and now we live in a very far suburb which is kind of half way in between. When I looked up on a cost of living calculator online, it said that housing in Austin was more expensive than where we are now. But when I compare Round Rock it says it is about the same. With our mortgage and association dues combined we pay almost $1200 a month for a 1000 sq ft, 2 bd, 2 bath condo. I have been looking at the Statesman website and they seem to have a fair number of duplexes or houses for rent. If we get things narrowed down and he comes home with good news tonight I might email you links to a few of them and you could maybe have an idea of what that part of town is like and if that seems a fair price? Thanks for connecting with me. Most of the people I know aren't from Austin, but other areas of Texas or lived near there once long ago but don't know much about the current situation. ________________________________ From: Dinkins-Borkowski <julie@...> Sent: Wed, February 23, 2011 2:24:37 AM Subject: RE: [ ] Info on Austin/Round Rock, TX Are you moving from Illinois to here?
