Guest guest
We went to see Dr. Grossman because our school district told us he was the only neurologist passed by the board. HE WAS AWFUL. He completely mis diagnosed my daughter. She got the services that she needed but he doesn't know what he is talking about. > > My son (5 in June) is aging out of EI and our school district wants to send him to Dr. Elliot Grossman for a neurological exam. Does anyone have any experience with this doctor? > > I'm concerned because while the school district agrees that my son needs support next year, they claim that he no longer fits into one of the eligible classifications. For example, they claim he is no longer " communication impaired " because he is not at the bottom 10%. I want my son to receive the services he needs but I don't want him labeled with a diagnosis that is not appropriate. I'm going back to the school district because my son was examined by Dr. Agin and, in my opinion, her report should be sufficient for services. I'm trying to get in for a re-evaluation before the end of the school year but am dependent on a cancellation (poor planning on my part). > > Any insights would be appreciated! > > Thanks, > Bernadette >
Guest guest
Never in my eight years of dealing with my daughters issues have I ever heard of a school district sending any parent to a particular neurologist? that does not sound right! I've taken her to one in Paramus that was pretty bad--just dont remember his name. Cant you tell the school district you'll find your own Ped Neuro with recommendations from other parents and one that accepts your insurance! Going to " their " doctor just sounds backwards!! > > > > My son (5 in June) is aging out of EI and our school district wants to send him to Dr. Elliot Grossman for a neurological exam. Guest guest
If I may jump in, our school district( Gloucester County, NJ) made us go to the Neurologist that they use when I requested. an eval. He was not very good. Guest guest
They told me the same thing that they told " hellonycmom " - he is approved and they are paying. I decided to send a letter today asking the school district for further information, including (a) how they decided he was not " communication impaired " ; ( why they believe Dr. Agin's diagnoses plus their observations over 2 years are not sufficient; © what information they are providing to Dr. Grossman, including what categories the Child Study Team is considering; and (d) whether I could interview him. I also lucked out and got a 5/17 cancellation at Dr. Agin so I'm going to push to use her instead. I'm sure they are going to argue that her current report is too old. In looking at the NJ statute, it is hard to see how an apraxic child with fine motor and other motor planning deficits would fit into any other categories than communication impaired or other health impaired. From talking to others, it appears that they like to give a diagnosis of " emotionally disturbed. " My guess is Dr. Grossman gives the school district that diagnosis and they get their funding! It may be they get more for certain diagnoses than others but maybe I'm getting too cynical. I would be interested in knowing if Hellonycmom's daughter got such a diagnosis and it had any repercussions for her. Thanks for the input. ________________________________ From: mosense <mosense@...> Sent: Fri, April 16, 2010 9:53:16 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Dr. Elliot Grossman (NJ) Never in my eight years of dealing with my daughters issues have I ever heard of a school district sending any parent to a particular neurologist? that does not sound right!
