Guest guest
I forget what DAN stand for, but it's doctors that specifically treat autism, I think. Celiac Disease is an allergy to wheat, barley, oats and rye. We think is celiac instead of autistic. I had him on a gluten free diet for 10 months. The wheat, oats, barley and rye have gluten in them, and gluten is a protein that I guess they can't digest. I had to make bread for out of rice flour, potato starch flour and tapioca flour and add guar gum (because the gluten is what makes bread hold together when the yeast rises). It's a tough diet to start, but you get used to it. I've heard of some kids actually being allergic to all grains, that would include rice and corn. On a gluten free diet, rice and corn is all can have. Guest guest
I've been following the DAN Protocol since 1998. It's very effective and one of the few options available that could actually " recover " our kids. There is nothing mysterious about it, it's just good medical/common sense. If you get a chance to attend a DAN Conference, do it, you'll come back with so much great info on what to do and it gives you a lot of hope In a message dated 12/12/2002 10:49:27 AM Eastern Standard Time, pepsters@... writes: > have any of you had your child see a " DAN " doctor and go through the > DAN protocol? Guest guest
Sheri, Thanks for the reply. I live in Burleson (just south of Fort Worth). As I said, I believe changing my son's diet would help him tremendously. Nevertheless, he just will not eat anything other than what I mentioned. On good days I can talk him into eating bites of different foods but most of the time he regurgitates the food. I am at my wits end. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the reply. I actually have an appointment set up with Dr. Volpe, but not until mid October. I knwo it's not that far away, I was just checking about these other doctors in the meantime. Regarding Dr. Volpe: Do you use him? If so can you share some of your experience with me about his treatment philosophy? Anything would be appreciated! Thanks, Brandee > Try http://drvolpe.com/. You really have to go in educated, though, so read " Children With Starving Brains " by McAndless, if you haven't already. Guest guest
I recently looked into getting an appointment with son-Lippette for my 11 yo. I was told that the next appointment was a year from now and that we would have to go through the whole evaluation process again (at great expense, I might add) before we could get to what we wanted. Guest guest
We use Dr. Kartzinel in Melbourne, FL. He is in practice with Dr. Jeff Bradstreet and their wealth of knowledge is incredible! They are researchers and speakers and the DAN conferences. He does telephone consultations for most of our appointments and we drive to FL once a year for an appointment. (Not too far to drive) My son is recovering under his direction, so we are very pleased. Hope this info helps. Good luck. Guest guest
If you want the best, go to Dr. Bradstreet's practice in Melbourne, FL. We just started with his PA, , who is wonderful and isn't quite as expensive. It took about 6 weeks to get an appt. with , longer with Dr. Bradstreet or Kartzinel. We have seen 3 local doctors over the last two years and have wasted so much money. Not that some treatments weren't beneficial, they definitely were. Anyway, Dr. Bradstreet's office won't steer you wrong. I think it's the best thing yet I've done for my child and wish I would've went there in the beginning. Go to www.icdrc.org for more info and to download the patient intake forms. Good luck! mom to Owen, 4, ASD, & Jordyn 18 months

If not I suggest you do, there are many tests they do to find out what's not working right in the body and things that can be done to correct it (via supplements, chelation, yeast treatment, seizure control, food allergies etc). It's info you won't get from "mainstream" medicine/ You can find a doctor in your area from the autism research website = http://www.autism.com/ari/ click on the dan link. In addition to the medical, can your son's school come to the house to set up some behavior programs for you? I know there's the Starz school in California run by Partington that is great with behavior mod programs http://www.behavioranalysts.com/ Hang in there! It has been to crazy in my house to be able to post but I have been able to peek in on some of your chats. I’m desperate for some wisdom. I have a son that my husband and I adopted at 17 days old who is now 12 years old. From the day we got him there were problems and it has been a long hard road. I have ADD myself. Finally about 1 1/2 years ago we got a correct diagnosis of Aspergers/HFA. We fought like dogs and thank the Lord got him placed in a private school here in San Diego called The Country School which has done wonders for him. So much so that we moved to a new school district and they are trying to tell us he doesn’t have AS/HFA because he is doing so well in school. My cry for help is... our home and family. My son is a different person at school and with other people. But when he gets home he will not listen to anything we ask him to do. He does not respect anybodies personal space or property in the family, he is constantly in your face. His engine is always running 300 miles an hour and he will not do anything to try to regulate it to stop all the problems it creates. All he will do is watch TV and play Game cube, which we have gotten ride of. Which now no one gets to enjoy. We can’t go anywhere because he doesn’t listen to what we tell him to do and never stays with us. Then there is my husband. God love him. But he only understands I tell you to do something and you do it and that is it! As much as he has read and talk with professionals etc. He keeps making thing worse for this boy and the situation and will not stick with a plan that we put in place. I work my tail off to put some structure in place and he screws it up. I also have an 8 year old daughter who was adopted and she is afraid of even though she loves him dearly just because he never gives her any breathing room and always threatens her that if she tells mom and dad this or that he is going to hit her. Which he doesn’t. He has hit her and she has hit him. She had a breakdown during school this year and I had to take her out and homeschool her. I’ve looked high and low for residential homes which I don’t want to do, Camps, People to help me (of course I have no friends I’m always dealing with them). I don’t know what to do. Just a few minutes ago my husband just blew up at my son and I had to break it up I’m afraid he is going to hit him. And my son has been a royal pain but then my husband has been frustrating all day. Then my daughter went hysterical and I am already depressed because I have spent the whole day trying to find an answer and here I am while fireworks are going off in the background crying writing on a computer to who people out there I don’t know. Well whoever took the time to read this long thing. Bless you.

Guest guest
My best friend was with Sid Baker for many years but he is more 'part time' these days and she began to question how aggressive he was being (not aggressive enough). Her son still has a lot of gut issues. She now is seeing Dr. Neubrander along with Dr. Krigsman. I would ask you, what are your child's issues to deal with at hand. Many doctors have more 'specialty' areas. IE: Dr. N is the father of mB12. I know of other parents on another list who use Dr. Bradstreet and are seeing wonderful results. But you almost have to know what kind of chelation protocol you want to use, what their preferred method is and your comfort level based on your research. Dr. McCandless is another sought after DAN! too. You really need to be careful. We went to see another DAN! for a second opinion to see what (if anything) we are really missing to treat my son (who is almost recovered). I don't need to see someone every __ amount of weeks. We have been working with a DAN! who I saw or communicated with when I had questions about a new protocol (researched and did what I could do on my own with help from this wonderful group and another). I don't want to have to see someone every __ weeks because it almost feels like we are funding their research. Does that make sense?? Saying this, every child is different and has different needs. We were lucky to have a child who responds to everything we implemented in a positive way. I am not certain what your situation is. I don't know if I was helpful or not, but felt the need to respond.
