Guest guest
I was speaking to an SLP to find a professional for Kimmie to help her 10 YO nonverbal son (working but not confirmed diagnosis of autism/apraxia) secure a diagnosis- and brought up about my Aunt Leona (who just turned 89 years old today!!!) that she worked in the original hospital where they did ABA therapy and that they used to use electroshock as " therapy " for autism and how my Aunt thought it was horrible and said these children on this therapy became robotic, not like those who had other therapies. My Aunt just to remind everyone is the one that almost died last Saturday who is doing better since being on nutriiveda- she grew up an orphan, got her PhD in nursing and taught nursing at Long Island University, worked as an army nurse during the war as a Lieutenant Colonel, a hospice nurse, a member of Mensa, and and she was the one that I first checked fish oil out with for Tanner 11 years ago as is in The Late Talker book. Any went off on a tangent -this SLP Tara told me that electroshock is " coming back " and that she has a 16 year old client who is no longer responding to PROMPT. I don't know if this has been brought up to any of you yet -but based on the following Kennedy Krieger is one of the hospitals behind this. Tara has 2 clients on nutriiveda and both with surges and wants to talk to this parent about looking into nutriiveda too. Funny we are all talking about getting nutriiveda a whole food formulated by world renowned medical doctors approved http://pursuitofresearch.org/advisors.html while there are some medical doctors -probably all of whom are NOT world renowned now recommending electroshock!!!! One could hope that this doesn't catch on -but it's up to us -the parents if it's suggested as " therapy " to just say NO!!!! Again my Aunt worked in the hospital with the original group -and she still has nightmares about this type of " therapy " She said it was " horrible what they did to these children " May want to watch this video and then look at the study from Kennedy Krieger published below this: Dr. Breeding, Ph.D. Psychologist testifies before the Austin City Council about Electroshock Therapy. Prog Neuropsychopharmacol Biol Psychiatry. 2010 Mar 16. Maintenance electroconvulsive therapy in autistic catatonia: A case series review. Wachtel LE, Hermida A, Dhossche DM. Kennedy Krieger Institute, s Hopkins School of Medicine, United States. Abstract The usage of electroconvulsive therapy for the acute resolution of catatonia in autistic children and adults is a novel area that has received increased attention over the past few years. Reported length of the acute ECT course varies among these patients, and there is no current literature on maintenance ECT in autism. The maintenance ECT courses of three patients with autism who developed catatonia are presented. Clinical, research, legal, and administrative implications for ECT treatment in this special population are discussed. Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. The recent 5th annual Roky kson Psychedelic Ice Cream Social celebrated psychiatric survivors of ECT. At this concert people signed a petition to present to the Austin City Council requesting a moratorium for ECT in the City of Austin. Many of psychiatry's practices such as lobotomy and insulin shock have been virtually eliminated due to their barbaric natures. ECT is still used however.
