new to list---and comment on fuzzy thinking

hello eveyone!

I came across this list, and the other one, by reading some newspaper

article.

I am 60 years old and i weigh about 130lbs at 6' 2 " !!

single.

respitory disabilities. disabled/retired.

---a cronie by " accident " or maybe by default! i eat SO slow, due in

part to my small mouth [ a dentist says to me once... " the next small

impression plate is a CHILDS " ], my few teeth, my lungs and

throat [COPD]...etc...etc

[a cherry tomato is four cut up pieces!] [ *A* string bean IS a bite,

a mouthfull]

by the time i cut up all my stuff on my plate before i eat, and

salt...butter...pepper..sugar: all the people who sat down near me

have long gone, in the caferteria!

thus i seem to be a CRONIE without trying! tall thin and lanky.

so?

I do not plan to " push " this: i want health, by being thin...not

merely the longevity.

I shudder a bit when i ride the city bus and i see some 400lb person

get on the bus and this bus actually tips over to the side about three

inches! joints are gone, in the legs, etc..etc..

I also shudder as i see the barnes and Noble going to anther baker for

my good saturday cookie; the one they have now is FRISBEE sized! i

could eat their " small cookie " FOR a meal, FOR supper, and i still

might not be able to eat all of it!!!

I find that i MUST eat meat, or get the " fuzzies " ! mush for a brain!

i take vitamens and minerals. I find that for ME, a vegie diet is a

no no!

I recall the Indians have a saying, when they saw the first settlers

come... " white man build a fire five feet high and sit back from it

twenty feet: we build fire one foot high and we sit three feet from

it...just as warm! saves wood too! "

---some of the " snacks' out there just overwhelm my sugarness and i

get spacey! I do only need a small glass of water or one-half of a

coke: not the bathtubs of cola that they now sell at stores.

so i plan to more or less eat just LESS with extra supplements, for

the rest of my life.

I Gotta be carefull that i do not OBSESS either, as i see that is a

danger...to get so involved with 'what to eat' that i have no more

time or braincells left for me to enjoy the rest of life with!

As " Cronie-ism " , i sense, for me, in my life-to-come....must not be an

end in and of itself: it is FOR something!! it is for a longer life

and a health-er life. Thus i will be very " moderate " in " Cronie-ism " !

---I may read some of these intelligent posts, from time to time, and

maybe even to reply to some.

I really do not think you are necessarily a CRONie by default. CRON

stands for " Calorie Restriction Optimum Nutrition " . Some comments

1) Read Dr. Walfords book " Beyond the 120 year diet " .

2) If you are adding salt, sugar, and butter to you dinner plate you

are probably not a CRONie. Every calorie taken in should be calorie

dense. Salt is bad for the blood pressure. Sugar is an empty

calorie food. Butter is all bad fat which will lead to

arterioscalrosis regardless of weight.

3) To be a CRONie you have to eat vegetables, no way arround it.

Without a high vegetable diet, you become malnutritioned (not a

healthy thing) rather than undernutritioned ( a healthy state).

4) The CRON diet is a two-phase system. A) Extend you life by

imiting your calories, thus extending the maximum life expectency and

B) prevent what is going to kill you (prevent diabetes, heart

disease, high blood pressure, cancer, etc...)

5) A handful of vitamin pills is helpful but is no way near a

replacement for getting most of your nutrients from your diet. You

need food for that and most come from fruits and vegetables.

I use a personal example from my father-in-law: He's a 60 year old

man, 5'6 " about 135 lbs all his life, a skinney guy. 40+ years

smoking. Took vitamins religiously and bragged he was in great

health because of it. Ate moderate sized meals, drowned everything

in salt, ate lots of penuts and used lot's of butter, doesn't like

veges, eats lot's of red meat, drank about 16 oz. a day of

his " healthy milk " which is regular milk. He also did moderate

exercising. Last January I had to rush him to the hospital for

emergenct triple bypass surgery after having a heart attack. He has

now stopped smoking and started eating smarter.

Being skinny is not being a CRONie.
