Guest guest
Start super slow then and gradually increase. My son didn't like it either at first. Honestly it boggles the mind how it's easier to get raw fish oils into most of these kids than chocolate or vanilla powder -and I don't know how they can detect even small amounts but many can. The good news is that once you can find a way to get it in within a week it's no longer difficult and you'll find they even start liking it. I mean Tanner now I just sent him off on a trip where he's only got the NV powder and water -and he'll drink it like that alone. OMG it was not at all like that early on!!! You will find a way to get it in. Some people have found mixing it with luke warm foods like homemade chocolate pudding (well from the box) once it's cooled down enough- or hot chocolate once it's cooled down they don't notice. Others have found mixing it with ice cream or making a shake with ice cream and using a straw to serve it (you taste things differently with a straw because of where it sits on the tongue) and the other one that's worked for many has been some type of cookie. I love that came up with a way to have her daughter help by rolling them in sprinkles and then she ate them all up. I have pages here for serving suggestions http://pursuitofresearch.org/products/nutriiveda/nv-serving-suggestions/ and recipes http://pursuitofresearch.org/products/nutriiveda/nutriiveda-recipes/ And again you can always start with just a pinch and work up! Main thing is to get it in even if it takes a few weeks to work up to the full dosage. =====
Guest guest
It took my son a good 2 months to like it. I would just get it in where I could and kept trying. Finally one day after a few weeks of refusing it, I put a little in his juice and he drank it. I've slowly worked up the scoop size over time. Guest guest
The first time I gave it to my son was in hot chocolate. I made regular hot chocolate and waited for it to cool down then mixed NV in. It was Christmas time so I put his hot chocolate in a special mug with marshmallows and he drank it right down. I was so afraid after reading stories here to change anything so he was drinking hot chocolate twice a day with marshmallows. A week or so later my husband just mixed it in regular milk with some Hershey syrup and that's how he drinks it now. We did get the full dosage in and for my son it did work in less than 24 hours with his speech, and now it's been a few months and he's reading books on level. His slp is supposed to talk to another slp because she can't believe the difference. Try the hot chocolate. Kate > > > > Start super slow then and gradually increase. Guest guest
I've been lax in sharing this, but I came up with another recipe. Mind you, we only make these once in a while, but it's a nice change. I know a lot of you do the more healthy options, but I'm still working on variety for my daughter. I'm sure we'll get to healthy evenutally. GrahamMallow Treats Graham Crackers Marshmallow Creme 1 scoop Chocolate NV 1 1/2 - 2 teaspoons water Mix the NV with water until it becomes a spreadable consistency (start with the lesser amount of water--it goes a long way). Spread on Graham crackers. Add marshmallow creme. Add another cracker on top if desired. Obviously, these are like s'mores. My daugher didn't finish all of them so I put them up on the counter. Later, I saw my husband and one of my sons eating them so they must taste good. :-) [ ] Re: Won't take NV? Start super slow then and gradually increase. My son didn't like it either at first. Guest guest
My son took the full dose the first day...I was thrilled! But then the next day he wouldn't take any! So I just gave him a little bit at a time and he was back up to the full dose within a few days. I mix it in his oatmeal and applesauce and sometimes his rice milk. Don't give up!! Guest guest
He's taken about 2 tsp today, between mixing it into his drinks and his dinner. I might try the milk with chocolate syrup, and see how that goes. I wish I could do those frozen " cookies " but he won't eat peanut butter! Thanks for the help, all. > > > > > > Start super slow then and gradually increase. My son didn't like it either at first. Guest guest
I also had luck with applesauce and yogurt. Good luck. It was tough the first couple of months but now worth it. Guest guest
I think I may have found my secret weapon: cherry koolaid. I told him it would taste like chocolate-covered cherries (and it does, amazingly enough), and he kept telling me " Add more medicine " Hopefully we'll find a healthier way to get him to take it, though! > > > > > > > > Start super slow then and gradually increase. Guest guest
Hot chocolate is still the only way my son takes NV. I started VERY slowly. And now he gets his full dose. I mix just enough hot water (about 1/4 of the cup) and then add soy or regular milk, and of course the marshmallows! I found that for a drink like this, an Ikea milk frother (just a couple of bucks) mixes it very well. To the point that my husband wants his hot chocolate mixed with it too! Sandy Oh and ps. You want to add the NV after the milk > > > > > > > > > > Start super slow then and gradually increase. My son didn't like it either at first.
