Hey everybody,

I haven't posted in a while so, I wanted to let you all know what I've been

seeing in Isaac lately.

Some of the most noticable things have been his gross/fine motor skills. He can

now catch a ball (volleyball size) and toss it back. He has the coordination to

pedal a tricycle. We were at a restaurant the other day and before I could tell

the waitress NOT to put his chocolate milk in their kiddy cup with a straw, she

did and gave it to him. He was really excited to try it. Although the seal with

his lips wasn't perfect, he still got the milk to come through it! He had to try

a lot harder but, he'd get a little here and there. He was so proud of himself!

He even eats with a spoon now with a LOT LESS mess! I am SO excited about all

his progress!

He is also trying more often to put two word sentences together. He is using far

fewer signs to communicate with me and is trying to speak instead, which means,

he feels he can and prefers to speak! :-)

I read a few days ago about some moms having a hard time getting their children

to take their NV. I completely understand your frustration. My son took it by

himself for a long while, then, just decided he didn't want it anymore. For a

week or two I tried to convince him to take it and pleaded with him to take it,

only for him to drink an ounce or two a day! I saw regressions and was desperate

for him to take the amount he was supposed to have every day. Finally, I got the

epiphany that... I am bigger than my 4 year old. I am stronger than my 4 year

old! Him taking his NV every day was so important to his health and his

improvement with his apraxia that I just made it like usual in his orange juice

and we layed down together on the couch and I held his sippy cup to his mouth

until it was gone! Did I have to hold him down until he quit fighting me?; yeah,

but, he took his NV! And I praised him when he was done and he clapped for

himself... all done, no big deal.

We make our children finish their vegetables before they can have dessert. We

make our children go to school. We make them do their homework. We make them

behave. We make them brush their teeth. We make them do their chores.... Why

can't we see the importance of what this supplement is doing for them that will

dramatically change the course of their lives and make them take it? Sure, we'd

all LIKE and PREFER that they'd take it willingly and enjoy it, but that isn't

real life sometimes. Sometimes, we just have to be the parent and say, " baby, I

know you don't like this, but it is SO GOOD for you and will help you in so many

ways, mommy is going to insist you take it every day. You can do it on your own,

or, mommy will have to make you take it. Which do you prefer? "

I know that would be more difficult with a 10 year old, you may have to think of

something else for a child that old... but, for the other moms with the 2,3,4 or

5 year olds that refuse their NV, doing what I suggested won't kill them and the

benefits of it far outway the drama you may encounter! Trust me... I know it's

hard. It's taken up to two hours for the juice to finally be gone. Then I

noticed he was plugging up the holes in his sippy cup with his tongue! He's a

smart boy! (good oral exercise though!) So, I've had to use a technique that

gets it coming out pretty fast and we get it done now in about 10-15 minutes.

Just find out what works for you and do it consistently. You won't regret it!

Feel free to write me with questions about NV, ordering NV or comments to

romesa1@...

Sincerely,

Romesa

The NV Sheriff
