Guest guest
The liquid is messier....you have to measure it out...it tends to get all over your hands, measuring devices etc and the oil is really hard to get out of/off of things. It spoils faster because all the oil is constantly exposed to air and as a result starts to smell more. I wondered the same thing and got the liquid at first, but quickly changed to capsules. ________________________________ From: rimamason <rimamason@...> Sent: Mon, February 7, 2011 8:51:00 AM Subject: [ ] why ProEFA capsules and not liquid? Hi All, just wondering, since most of you pierce the capsule and squeeze out the liquid, why aren't more of you using the ProEFA liquid? i did the math and the ratios of EPA/DHA/GLA are the same for each. i'm assuming there's a reason i just don't know yet... please fill me in! i'd like to make a purchase. thanks! -Rima
Guest guest
And because new parents have no idea how many capsules one teaspoon is equal to. I just got a private email from a parent that started her 3 year old on 3 teaspoons a day of fish oil- which is the same as 12 capsules. Raise your hand if you would even think of starting your 3 year old on 12 capsules of adult sized fish oil capsules. More is not always better anyway -if you have the right formula you will find it will work even at lower dosages. And besides that yes there is the rancidity and the fridge factor. Fish oils are very unstable in oxygen as you can imagine -and while the capsule keeps that same fish oil inside it fresh for up to 4 years and without being refrigerated -the oil in the bottle lasts only around 4 months and needs be be refrigerated once opened. So my question is if it's only good for 4 months -how rancid is it after a month? After 2 months? etc. " Use the liquid if you have it. Also the shelf life isn't long once opened -only about 4 months. The capsules on the other hand even once you open the bottle are good for up to 4 years, So if you have the liquid use it quick (if your child doesn't mind the taste of it-mine did) Some here may like the liquid because they think it's easier to use -but the capsules are better in my opinion for various reasons including years longer shelf life, easy to control dosage, easy to travel with, not a big deal if you spill the bottle over. Passed Tanner taste test (liquid didn't) And..yes...you can just use a pin and " poof " like magic the capsule is 'oil' but the oil without a capsule -can't turn it into a capsule. If you were using capsules I'd suggest starting with one capsule of ProEFA -that would be about the same as 1/4 a teaspoon of the liquid ProEFA. 1/2 teaspoon of ProEFA oil is close to the equivalent of about 2 capsules of ProEFA. " If you are experienced and decide you want to use the liquid knowing all you do now -then you have the facts to proceed how you see best. But even still if you travel I suggest you purchase the capsules. But if you are a new parent trying fish oils for the first time -I would start with the capsule for soooooo many reasons (not starting with what would be the equivalent to 12 capsules may be one of them!)
