He has some of the typical autistic symptoms- hand flapping, toe walking, finger tapping, so he looks autistic sometimes. I have spent the past year wondering if he is autistic, apraxic or both. I am just so happy and relieved to have a true diagnosis. > > So, I am looking for a good Prompt SLP in Warren, or Sussex county NJ area. > > Thank you! > > Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry > >
Guest guest
Janet Krebs is in Ridgewood (Bergen County) so probably too far for you. another way to find PROMPT certified practitioners is here: https://promptinstitute.com/index.php?page=contact-us you send them 5 zip codes and they send you a list of people in those areas. thing is, not all on the list are in private practice - some are in schools or other settings. it's a good starting point though. You could also ask at preschools in your area for a name of someone good. good luck! Guest guest
Thank you so much for the info. Ridgewood is a good distance but may be possible. I think it's closer than the other one Barbara mentioned. Thank you both for your help. Hopefully we will find a good fit. Guest guest
Have you checked your school district SLP? I'm just up the road from you in NY. Our SD has a Prompt/Kaufman SLP for all the kids in the district and for anyone in CPSE who does services outside typical prek, than can pick my district as their provider.Actually we have at least two SLP's that I know of. Only the most senior in the district does CPSE. So if not yours, maybe a neighboring district? Are you getting EI services for Speech? maybe they could provide a new SLP for the balance of your time in EI that is qualified in Prompt. > > We took our 2.5 year old son to a new ped neurologist today (Dr. Cargan in Mountainside, NJ) and got our new diagnosis--moderate to severe apraxia (with SID and low truncal tone). Guest guest
We actually have a prompt certified SLP that comes to our home twice a week through EI. However she doesn't get much prompt done because he doesn't allow her to touch his mouth for too long if at all. Is this a common reason for prompt not to work? We also have a private SLP that we see once a week that is not prompt trained. She said she would do more oral motor. We have been receiving ST for over a year without much progress in speech. We will be in EI for five more months before transferring to the school district. Since we haven't seen much progress, I was looking to get a new prompt therapist for private, but keep his EI SLP since she is prompt and keep trying??? I don't want to waste any more time with speech. He has done so well in so many other areas, but his speech has not progressed. He still has mostly all vowel sounds, occasionally an m or d sound, rarely b sound and some animal sound approximations. I am happy to finally have a correct diagnosis and want to make sure we don't lose any more time. Thanks!!
