Guest guest
hello, I rarely post but have been around forever....my son was orig dx pddnos when he was barely two. His problem at that time was no speech, no pointing, waving etc and he would " stim " , line things up etc. Then it was discovered he also had apraxia. Not sure if he really just had apraxia or if he has both. Right now, at 13, he appears more like aspergers. He has been attending reg classroom for years now, and makes honor roll, test advanced on his MCAS in math..hes sorta a math genius! never any learning disability, in fact he was always ahead academically. he was always social too.....until recently. You see, he has this high pitched, funny voice and he totally appears NT, but the minute he talks, everyone looks! when he was younger, he could get away with it, but now that hes older, its really affecting his self esteem. He no longer joins our towns football or basketball teams, which he used to love....and he never goes outside to play...he is becoming a hermit and actually wants to be homeschooled for high school! He starting to go thru puberty and keeps asking us if his voice is changing yet, lol! I dont think he ever got satisfactory speech therapy to address the apraxia, since they really considered him on the autism spectrum when he was younger. He has good annuciation now and they dropped him from speech at school...said they couldnt do anything for the quality of his voice. Any ideas or feedback for me? thanks...rita
