Guest guest
I just got another update from from our group and she gave me permission to share it here: UPDATE a few months later: So Jack had his 3 year early childhood services evaluation last month. I had taken him completely off of NV for 4 weeks prior to the evaluation to see if there were any regressions. The good news is that there were none! The bad news is that the ST that evaluated him at the school said he tested at or above his age level for all speech related tests. The school said they will not provide him ANY early childhood services. I know he is doing GREAT but I still think he will benefit from Speech therapy. I am at a loss right now. Jack has been diagnosed with Apraxia. How can they determine he doesn't need services in a 2 hour evaluation (and they said he wasn't very cooperative which is likely because they wouldn't let me stay in the room with him?) They told me I could have him re-evaluated in 3-6 months if I thought it was necessary. A little more about Jack...He is now saying up to 9-10 word sentences with little or no omitions at all! He is doing great in swimming lessons and makes the most hilarious facial expressions! He has no noticeable hypotonia at all anymore either! (you can read her entire story and others like it here http://pursuitofresearch.com/2010/11/22/is-nutriiveda-creating-a-paradigm-shift-\ in-treatment-of-speech-impairments/ about her son Jack) is a research scientist so a very savvy parent, and her son Jack had a definitive diagnosis of a multifaceted communication impairment by a team of professionals who all diagnosed him with apraxia, hypotonia etc less than a year ago...the first time she took Jack off NV even just for days after his dramatic surges on NV he had slight regressions in speech -but more extreme regressions in behavior...and now months after that -even after FOUR WEEKS- zero regressions and her son is no longer qualifying for any services at all. I've seen this happen with my own now 14 year old son Tanner over the past year as many of you have read his updates...I guess the best word is normalization -but actually above normal I'd say from what I'm seeing. And I had just shared that even with Tanner missing fish oils for days -no regression at all either which is remarkable as up to 13 years old prior to NV if he missed a DAY or his dosage was reduced at all in one day his speech became what we call " bumpy " So the question is....you have your child on NV for 6 months to a year and your child no longer seems to need it. There were dramatic surges to start, but now it seems it's no longer needed. and I continue with it because in my case I feel whatever it provided on a nutritional level clearly was missing prior, and even if it just helps a bit more -I give it to him for the same reasons I give him fish oils and never want him to stop taking them for life -they contain essential fats, while NV contains the essential amino acids and nutrients and it's all easily digestible. Maybe we as a group can compare those of our children that had surges and then stopped the NV to those of us that had surges and then continue over the next year to see if there is a difference? We already know that there are areas NV appears to help with that most of us don't even think about at first such as growth (especially height!) and academics. Just one other quick update on Tanner....he had to do a report in school that compared two things. On his own he decided that he wanted to compare fish oil to NV. I was expecting him to downplay the fish oils to the NV because he can't remember all the fish oils did for him when he was preschool age. But no, in the report he speaks about both of them highly...and speaks about how NV wasn't invented yet when he was little and that if it wasn't for fish oils he wouldn't have had anything to help him speak for ten years outside of speech therapy. He then says to me after he reads the report " Mom I don't want to write this but from my heart I appreciate the fish oils because where would I be today if I wasn't able to speak for the past ten years? Where would I be? " He then says " I don't want to write that because it's from my heart and it's personal " So I said " Can I share it with my group Tanner? " And he said " I am telling you because I know you are going to share it but that's OK because it can help other kids " What's so funny to me is that I don't have to remind him to take NV -he takes it twice a day on his own -but fish oils I have to remind him to take. But now I know he does appreciate them too. If anyone doesn't know how this whole thing with NV started which is because of Tanner as well (almost as much as Tanner was one of the first children with apraxia on fish oils if you read The LCP Solution and The Late Talker and know how I then got on rooftops and screamed about it) You can read this http://pursuitofresearch.org/the-history-why-nutriiveda-for-therapeutic-use-for-\ autism-apraxia-etc/ So many things to be thankful for- therapists, doctors and teachers included...and for Tanner -fish oils and NV have been out of the tons of therapies we did that were alternative and in most cases expensive with mild improvements- the two cheapest and easiest things that created the most profound results. So the question is...is it possible to stop one or both -and even if you can...should you? And...if you don't stop do you get better results over time than if you do or is it more just a health reason? One year...I can't believe I'd be asking this in one year ever!!!! PS -if any of you has a question for she's still a member so ask and I'm sure she'll answer here -I wanted to share her update in the context of the 'is there neuro repair going on' which and I as parents both believe so (and not so far fetched as you can read here http://pursuitofresearch.org/2010/11/22/neurogenesis-does-mother-nature-know-bes\ t/ as just one article) Best to all! =====
