Guest guest
I want to share our great news, My ten year old DS was able to ride his bike today for the first time and he rode for almost an hour! He never had interest in bike riding up till today. We bought him a new bike for Christmas in hopes he would take an interest with a new bike as his other one was getting a bit childish for his age, but that didn't work either. Even if he was interested he could never understand how to peddle and would peddle forward and then backward and put the brakes on no matter how many times we tried to teach him the right way to peddle. Today after school he got his bike helmet and put it on without asking for help. He always needs help with things like that. Then got on his bike and started riding just like that! He rode his bike and was laughing and having a great time. I had to blink a few times to make sure it was really my Ben on that bike!!!! He started nv a week ago this coming Saturday but I don't know if it has anything to do with that. We are just thrilled!
Guest guest
Congrats to both you and Ben! That's wonderful news. My son did the exact same thing. He loved walking his bike everywhere, for years, then one day he just got on and off he went. Isn't it the most amazing feeling when something like this happens! Guest guest
My son is 9 years old and still unable to understand how to bike ride either. Is it typical for children with apraxia and autism not to bike ride until ten years old? what is nv you just started or is that a typo. Thank you and congratulations. > > I want to share our great news, My ten year old DS was able to ride his bike today for the first time and he rode for almost an hour! Guest guest
Congratulations to Ben! Our 6 year old son also has apraxia and just rode his bike without training wheels for the first time this past weekend! It was so exciting and I took about 100 pictures! I didn't even think of nv until I read this. I keep this page as a check list for my son's progress as it has been in so many areas since Christmas http://pursuitofresearch.org/pursuit-of-research/ and just noticed that bike riding is on there. With all nv has done for our son I would not be shocked if it helped in this area as well. I just want to say THANK YOU again for all this group has done for my family!
