Guest guest
My son,Mason, turned 4 in December. He started fish oils in July. We are taking 2 pro efa and 1 pro epa. Just wondering do you ever increase the dose? We also started NV in October. He takes 2 heaping scoops a day. When to increase this? He is very tall and weighs 47 lbs. His speech has inproved since being on both. He now uses 2 words together most of the time.He has severe verbal and oral apraxia, low tone in the trunk and sensory issues. Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi - my son Tanner is now 14 and 6 foot and I have him on the same amount of fish oils. I highly suspect the NV helps the body utilize the essential fatty acids better because previous to NV Tanner was on 6 capsules (double what you have your child on now) and if he missed even one day or we tried to reduce his dosage his speech got " bumpy " in a day. Now he's on the half dosage and it's about 4 days till he gets bumpy off. Again I'm not trying to stop the fish oils -Tanner's not always good at remembering on his own. We are working on that You should be fine for both -but if you do want to raise anything I'd raise the NV a little bit more. As you are at heaping scoops that's probably about the same as 2 and almost a half scoops anyway -ask your son's pediatrician if you can go to 3 scoops a day. Or the other thing you can do is what some have found even more surges by adding a bit of digestive enzymes or Accell In addition to the progress in speech -what other areas from this list are you seeing surges in? You should be seeing progress in a number of these areas if not almost all. Are you? Guest guest
We have seen improvement in fine and gross motor. He is doing much better tracing and cutting and began riding his tricycle. He is more focused on task at hand and has starting to do more 2 step directions. His big change has been speech. He has been in speech for 2 years now and it has only been since we started NV that he can put 2 words together. He still has trouble with 3 words. ex . I read book. He would just say read book. Which is fine. We are just glad to see him putting 2 words together. Once he goes to 3-5 syllables, things start to break down. Lose the ending etc. He is very social. He was before NV but it is hard b/c of the speech. His imaginative play has improved but it still hard b/c of the speech. He plays next to the kids in his prek room at our elementary school and uses the limited speech he has. We haven't seen any improvement with potty training. He was trained a year ago for urinating but the bowel movements are a real problem. We had him trying before the nv and was constipated and it scared him. Now he just lets a little out at the time, in his underwear.once he is home from school. He normally will not go at school but will mess up 5-7 pairs of underwear once he is home. He just trys to hold it back.We have tried everything. A treasure box, the papaya juice, The papaya juice makes him go everyday but only alittle at each time and he refuses to go in the potty. The sensory is still an issue. He does well at school because they move from one activity to another. They keep him busy. When they go outside he wants to jump and rub his fingers together, especially if he is watching someone on a riding toy. At home we see it more. He wants to jump and rub his fingers watching tv or movies and if he can get someone to push his trains for him. But he can stop when we tell him. But as long as the activity is still going on then he will want to start back. But he is more willing to try new things. Hair cuts are better. Both of these were issues. Still have a long way to go on dressing. He can pull up pants and take his shoes and socks off and coat off. But gets very frustrated with the socks. He has grown in height. Eating has never been an issue. He currently r.c 5 speech a week, 4 at school, and 1 private. 1 pt at school and 1 ot at school a week. We also do private 0t 2x a month. He receptive language is very good. He seems to be at age level for school activities.  He is has an incredible sense of direction. My daughters, ages 10 and 14, never know where they are but he knows the routes to all the places we frequent. His memory also seems to be very strong. What do you mean by digestive enzymes? Thanks for all your help.  ________________________________ From: kiddietalk <kiddietalk@...> Sent: Mon, March 28, 2011 8:33:44 PM Subject: [ ] Re: when to increase dosage for fish oil and nv  Hi - my son Tanner is now 14 and 6 foot and I have him on the same amount of fish oils. Guest guest
Hi again Kathy! That is great about all the progress areas- but I want to see if I can offer help for the bowel movements he's slowly eliminating in his underpants one after another where you have to keep changing his underwear as if it's a diaper. Have you taken him yet to a pediatric gastroenterologist? It is true that constipation can be extremely painful for them- but if he can go a bit at a time in his underwear -why not just do a bit at a time in the potty? As he's only doing this at home there appears to be an opening for behavioral methods. When you say you did the treasure chest -I'm guessing you meant that he got to choose a toy whenever he used the potty? Here's one my son's pediatric gastroenterologist suggested to us Behavior Modification -10 minutes daily -no distractions. Choose the same time every day and have him sit on the potty. Seems after school would be a good time. Take him to the store and let him pick out a calendar and stickers. Each time he makes a poop in the potty he gets to pick a sticker out and put it onto the calendar for that week. Use calendar stickers -every week reward for amount of poops in potty 2/ week something small 3-4 medium 5-7 large reward The rewards can be things you would have done anyway -but things you know he wants to do. have you read my constipation archive? Let me know if you want me to repost it. You can get digestive enzymes at health foods stores- through a doctor -online. Here's one article http://www.enzymestuff.com/basicsdosing.htm Again not all parents that add them see more benefits with NV but some have. Accell which I also mentioned was developed by the same doctors behind NV http://pursuitofresearch.org/endorsed-by-the-chopra-center/ but in addition to digestive enzymes it " contains an exclusive blend of Wild Crafted Organic Ayurvedic herbs all 10:1 combined with Enzymes, Natural B-Vitamins, Ionic Trace Minerals, Chromium and Greens " http://pursuitofresearch.org/products/accell/ While we do know NV works for just about all -not enough have used digestive enzymes or Accell to know the percentage there yet -but again share all with your child's doctor. If approved it's worth trying. But again there has to be some more suggestions for you with the potty issue. Again let me know if you want me to repost the information from Dr. that helped Tanner back when he was 6 =====
Guest guest
Yes- in the treasure box were inexpensive things he really likes. No more than a $1 or 2. Please repost the article if you don't mind. I will try the calender with stickers but I still may make an appt with the pediatric gastroenterologist. Before he was trained at all, he would do one BM a day in his diapers. I don't know why he started these small ones in his underwear. Even when he was a pullup on for bed ,he will not just do a regular BM. It is still little ones all the time. He even crosses is legs to try and stop it from coming.. I am going to pick up the enzymes , and try those first. Then maybe move to the accell. ________________________________ From: kiddietalk <kiddietalk@...> Sent: Mon, March 28, 2011 10:27:44 PM Subject: [ ] Re: when to increase dosage for fish oil and nv  Hi again Kathy! Guest guest
Hi , If you are going to the doctor anyway, I'd ask him/her about probiotics first. That really seems to be the one that helps with bowel issues. I use the digestive enzymes with the NutriiVeda because it seems to enhance the results we get for speech complexity (my son is now 11) as well as other areas. My friends daughter has constipation issues and she is on probiotics. I also use them myself to help stay regular. So, ask the doctor first and see what is said.
