Guest guest
Okay, I am shaking in my shoes. My husband just sent me a video clip and our son, for the first time, walked across the family room...again and again and again. Up until now he has been able to take 3-5 steps max before falling forward. Don't know why I am typing here instead of leaving work but I just had to share. And get this- up until now he has been on Omega 3s (Nordic Naturals childrens DHA). After reading through the archives here just yesterday we started Pro EFA. I didn't even start the EPA yet because I wanted to start it slowly. Of course, I have no idea if there is a relationship but all I can tell you is that we have been working on this for 10 months and today it happened. Holy Cow. Thanks for all the hard work has done in keeping this sight organized and sharing the information in a supportive and professional way. Guest guest
YAY LIAM!!!!! Paige I am so happy for you!!! I hope by now you did get home to go give that little boy a HUGE HUG!!! I didn't know from your first update that Liam was having trouble with walking -I guess we were talking more about the fact he isn't yet saying words but does make a few consistent sounds. I just checked and you only joined this group 8 days ago -and yes the right fish oil formula does make a world of difference!!! http://pursuitofresearch.org/2010/12/01/therapeutic-use-of-fish-oil-for-apraxia-\ autism-and-other-communication-impairments/ Please remind me how long was he on the DHA formula prior to you switching to ProEFA? Now he's walking and you should be seeing so much more too. And in a few weeks he's going to be seeing who I believe will help you greatly in advocating!!! I'm playing phone tag with our VP Cheryl who can also help you with the IEP issues from this message of yours /message/102027 I still smile when I think of what your school SLP said that she went to a conference in 1981 and that nothing has changed about apraxia and some of the other classics she said. I was joking around to one of the SLPs in this group and nicknamed her " All I need to know about apraxia I learned in the 1800s " I can't wait to talk to Cheryl and promise to get that message up as soon as I do! Take time to celebrate this huge success! Hop is coming out this Friday -that may (or may not be) a treat for him! Bring some jelly beans if you go because whenever Hop gets nervous he poops jelly beans- for sure I know from my boys they'd still get a kick out of that. (my 14 year old Tanner said I'm the only one that thinks of this kind of stuff) We loved Universal's Despicable Me so we do plan to see Hop too for the Holiday! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrndSa-O8C8 Who knows? Walking today and then Hop can inspire Liam to hop tomorrow! I LOVE that you took the time to update us because your message shows that there is so much hope. And yes sometimes it can be as simple as consuming some essential nutrients (jelly beans not included but optional Thanks for lighting up the group with hope!!! =====
Guest guest
Thanks for sharing in the excitement. Cracking up at your comments because as I came in from work guess who was eating a jelly belly with their daddy? His big sister introduced him to the pink ones a while back and it is his definite weakness. I was able to witness his walking first hand. Just can't believe how great he looked. He isn't anywhere near being an independent walker but as I mentioned he went from falling after 3-5 steps to walking across the room! To answer your question , Liam started taking Nordic Natural's Children DHA probably since sometime in July. He was taking 3 " fish balls " as we affectionately called them based on what our pediatrician had told us ( he was 30 months old at the time and 20 pounds). He is now up to 26 pounds. I had sought out dietary/nutrition info when we returned home and wish I would have known what I know now. Despite that, he has gained almost 10 pounds in 10 months and is thriving now. I was excited that he likes the new fish oil pills (need a new nickname) He was a champ and put them in his mouth and bit them. After sucking out the good stuff he spits out the gelcap into my hands. I promise to keep you updated. Our plan is to keep up with the fish oil only until we see Hoffman and start the NV after that. We ordered the NV but I don't know how long it takes to arrive. I figure that gives him 3 weeks on just fish oil and let's see him pre-NV. Thanks again, Paige > > CONGRATULATIONS!!! How exciting!! > Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry > > [ ] HOLY COW!! Guest guest
Congratulations! I know that amazing feeling all too well, even the shaking part! My 9yo dd took her 1st steps at 2.5yo and walked on her own at 3yo! Watchout now! Now you have to baby proof, something I got too used to not having to do! maureen > > Okay, I am shaking in my shoes.
