Guest guest
Hi all. I've had my son on the ProEFA/ProEPA 2:1 ratio for at least 2.5 years. It has helped him so much with speech! Whenever we've had to stop for some reason, everytime we start again, we see more language boosts. It helped him begin to babble, later it helped him with more words, then it helped him put sentences together. Everyone ALWAYS noticed the change! He's almost 4 and doing very well (his official dx is autism but probably wouldn't get that dx today). He's age appropriate with almost everything except some social skills. Over the past three months, I've noticed a change in his speech patterns. First, I noticed stuttering. Quickly, the stuttering changed to hesitancy...as if he is thinking of what to say, moves his mouth but the words don't come out, sometimes he just stops trying to get the words out or rephrases things. Obviously, I am worried because this is new. I feel like his response time to answering questions or just having a conversation has slowed. Not because he doesn't know what to say but more because he can't get out the words. Does that sound like apraxia? We started this journey when he was 15 months old and have done everything under the sun...and mainly with fantastic results. So, seeing any sort of change in speech is frightening. So... a friend suggested that her son does much better on just the Omega 3's. I've been a huge fan of the EFA/EPA protocol. Then, I started thinking that maybe my son isn't getting enough EPA. He only gets 1 ProEPA and 2 ProEFA's. I'm thinking that he needs at least 1000mg of Omega 3's- right? So, I did what seems obvious, I increased the proEPA. I switched the ratio... 1 proEFA to 2 proEPA and saw a surge OVERNIGHT in his speech and response time. Like a crazy surge with no stuttering or hesitancy. And, I've been researching the internet for about 10 hours straight trying to figure out what to do. I know that some reported negative results with the reverse ratio...now I'm scared again. Then, I just started reading about NV. My son is on GFCFSF and LOD. He is extremely sensitive to oxalates. He has severe pain; so I am worried if the NV would be high oxalate with the whey protein. At any rate, should I continue with the increased ProEPA? increase the EFA to EPA ratio to 4:2? try a small amount of NV? I really think that he's not getting enough of the omega 3's... So afraid to mess with anything (you know how that goes). Also, he is VERY short for his age. He looks like a 2 year old and is almost 4 although we (his mom & dad) aren't exactly tall. He used to be very overweight though. Now, he's about 70 % for weight but only 15 % for height. He's 32 pounds and 37 inches tall. Advice? Thanks! Sorry for the long post.
