It has .........(snipped) Joe and everyone: On May 6, I will have my SECOND anniversary. I'm so proud of myself and can tell all the newbies it gets easier and easier. As Joe says, it's a way of life. Like Joe, I practise CRON in moderation. I avg about 1400 cal a day; weigh about 114 (still losing but extremely slowly) down from a high of 138 or so. But I now believe that actual weight is not important as healthy low calories. Lost weight is just a side effect of being a CRONIE. I eat out (but small portions). For breakfast I usually have 3/4 cup of Total cereal w/skim milk and maybe a couple of prunes or small amt of other fruit. Lunch is usually a big salad (Leaf lettuce, tomato, red cabbage, onion, red pepper, broccoli sprouts, and other veggies, a protein which can be tofu, chicken, salmon and some salad dressing, usually my own concoction. Dinner varies and I enjoy the variety, but invariably has lots of cooked veggies and protein Examples would be poached salmon with veggies, omlettes with lots of veggies or even a soy burger with trimmings. Snacks are my home made no sugar cake (recipe in the archives) with ff yogurt topping, bokchoy schmeared with a bit of nut butter, or sweet and sour cabbage soup (recipe in archives). I also make a fruit salad for an after dinner snack for hubbie and me virtually every night. We top it with FF yogurt. I do eat on occasion FF, sugar free, ice cream in extremely small quantities topped with my home made hot fudge sauce (recipe discussed on the list recently). The only supplements I take are alphalipioc acid and fish oil. Unlike Joe, I do eat Brewer's Yeast. I fold it into my cake recipe and into my chocolate hot fudge sauce. I also enjoy a glass of red wine almost every night. I hope to have many more CRON anniversaries.
Guest guest
Jody, My understanding of how Xolair works is that you will have to take it forever. Before I started taking Xolair I spoke with a rep from NovaFactor. He told me that after the clinical trials among some patients there did seem to be some residual effect that lasted for about a year, but that it did eventually wear off. I also asked him if, based on this residual effect, it would be possible to take a lower dose and still get the same benefit. This was also part of my rationale for possibly splitting up my shots instead of taking both at once. He told me that this possibility had not been studied, partly because nobody had thought of it but mostly because the clinical study was less than two years. Greg > Congrats Greg! Isn't it wonderful to feel better and get off some of that other medication?! > > I have a general question. Is Xolair something that needs to be taken 'forever' like a maintenance medication......or at some point does it 'fix' the allergic reactions? Does anyone know? Has their been any studies on this? > > I am happy with my Xolair shots, just wonder if I am in this for the long haul. > > Thanks, > Jody >
Guest guest
Greg, Congrats on your anniversary! Good luck with the health insurance battle. Jody, my understanding is the same as Greg's. At least with the current science we'll be taking Xolair indefinitely. I do not recommend anyone trying to lower doses. I can't say I've been absolutely miserable on the lower dose, but I'm definitely feeling worse. Yesterday I got exposed to mold and I had to resort to pred today. Guest guest
Congrats Greg My one year anniversary was sometime in the middle of August. When I got my 2 injections today, I was reminded that I was the first asthma patient in the state of Arkansas to receive Xolair. Now, there are hundreds. God bless, and happy breathing my friend Doug
