Thanks, Bob. You made me feel better (this list is so good!)

I'm trying to be much more 'mindful' today. The day after is always the

toughest :0

I'm forty-two, Francesca. I also have the tendancy to get depressed, so I

have to be careful with that. Protein intake never seems to be the problem

for me - I really have always consumed a lot of protein. My body seems to

want it. There are some days, however, that my stomach seems bottomless, and

it's a horrible feeling. Yesterday, I just gave in. (Actually, I didn't eat

so much bad food, except the samami and cheese, it was just that I felt I was

still hungry and wanted more. Nasty feeling.

Hello ,

Don't feel blue. Everyone goes through these periods of binge

eating. Be glad that you really didn't go overboard.

The nice thing about CRON is that it is very forgiving if you " fall

off the wagon " . Walford states not to be concerned about what you

do day by day, but what you accomplish over the weeks and months.

When I suffer a binge day and over do the fat or the calories, I

just crank it into the equation and try to average out the week.

Really bad episodes may take as much as two weeks to spread the

excess out. It doesn't happen often. Last month I gobbled down 8

candy bars in less than half an hour while talking to a friend. Now

that was depressing.

If you look at what you ate (salami & cheese) you really only

overdid the fat....maybe some sodium (but we tend to be sodium

deficient anyway).

Also, one of my philosophies is that life is to be enjoyed. A

special dinner over at a friend's house or perhaps a party

celebrating some special occassion are times when I put CRON aside.

I know that I can adjust my diet before and after the event to

accomodate the side step from my normal eating regimine. So it is a

no worry, no hassle, no guilt affair. If all your friends think you

won't eat their cooking, you won't get many social invitations to

dine, and it is people that make life worth living.

***Every 3 - 4 days, I have a "safey binge." I deliberately eat something reasonably healthy that is above and beyond my planned CR diet. I choose something that gives me a very satisfied, full-tummy feeling. An insensibly large bowl of plain non-fat yogurt overly sweetened with sucralose and blueberries usually does the trick. Before I feel my compliance begin to slip, I'll go for my yogurt binge, and then I'm ok again. In my mind, this is "unscheduled maintenance" or "food for the soul." I do NOT even count these calories in my program...they're a freebie.

The hardest times for me are a few days before menstruation, which unfortunately is happening every 18 to 21 days as I approach menopause. The carb cravings are really weird at that time, so instead of the yogurt, I usually stuff my tummy on a large bowl of oatmeal. I might even do that two or three days in a row if it's a bad month. It isn't perfect CR, but it keeps me going.

Without these safety binges, I too tend to wake up surrounded in candy bar wrappers. Settling for a lesser degree of CR "perfection" has been the answer for me.

Yea I've been trying to deliberatly take one day off a week in which

I don't count calories. I try to eat *moderately* then but I eat as

I please. I actually fall off the wagon more than one day a week but

that's something I'd like to rein in tighter. It may not be

optimized CR but it's *practicable* CR. " Perfect denial " will never

be practicable for me. For me the old dieting dictums are true -

denial of any one desired food will almost certainly lead to binging

on it in the long run.

Agreed. Actually the only time I am *hungry*. But then I only

practice very moderate CR which is probably the most I can do anyway

as I am thin to begin with.

  • 3 months later...

I definitely should try DWIDP. Although I don't want to lose weight, I DO

want to lighten my caloric load gradually. Is this possible? Don't know.

Thanks for the encouragement, Suz,

Lina
