Guest guest
Tom: As I have recently purchased a Tanita , I am trying to get a feel for where it is calibrated to be accurate. I see pretty large swings over the course of a day presumably due to degree of hydration as that is likely to affect conduction. I believe they say it is more accurate a night, which is likely to coincide with a more fully hydrated condition. Do you see large swings from morning (17%) to night (9.8%) or do I have a personal problem..? Based on this I sure wouldn't pay extra for .1% resolution, again. Others are more inclined toward the prescription written by Roy Wolford. Focus more on body fat levels than on calories consumed. A number of us have purchased the Tanita scale, which measures body fat by electrical impedance. I've been a Zone Diet guy for about 10 years and you guys are very similar. In fact, by my calculations, the number of calories recommended for the Zone seems about the same as CR. I guess you guys are a little bit more restrictive, right? Is there any "rule of thumb" as far as how many calories to consume? Or is it best just to experiment and listen to your body?I'm looking forward to learning more about CR. Any advice for a Newbie is appreciated. Guest guest
I see some large swings in mine as well - I just use it as a relative indicator rather than as an absolute. As I see my weight go down however, my percent body fat seems to be going up. Not exactly what I wanted. Guest guest
Doug, Tanita claims that body hydration influences the body fat reading. For this reason I always take my reading at reveille after voiding. When your body fat level is low, the Tanita scale provides a reassuring adjunct to the weight scale. Together they help you to more accurately monitor your weight. Eating lots of low energy density fruit and veggies plus plenty of water between meals means that I have large hydration fluctuations from morning to evening. (People who are fully hydrated have better skin complexions than other folks). ----- Original Message ----- From: john roberts Sent: Wednesday, June 05, 2002 2:27 PM Tom: As I have recently purchased a Tanita , I am trying to get a feel for where it is calibrated to be accurate.
