A few years back there was an outbreak of oyster related illnesses in Houston. The restaurants and patrons reported that those who consumed beer, wine or some other form of alcohol with their raw oysters remained well. Only those who failed to include an alcoholic beverage with their oyster meal fell ill.

I love a raw oyster on occasion, but only when accompanied by a cold beer or glass of wine.

I recall a study from years ago regarding prophylactic effects from consuming alcohol with seafood, and the results while similar suggested that beer was less effective than wine or liquors... while I personally consider beer the superior beverage it appears the proof/concentration of alcohol plays a role and with "r"isky seafood you may want to go a little stronger.

PS: or forget the seafood and just drink the beer....
