" The August issue of Scientific American has an article on CR: " The Serious

Search for an Anti-Aging Pill. " It's about the possibility of a pill (a " CR

mimetic " ) based on something like 2-deoxy-D-glucose, which interferes with

the way cells process glucose. 2DG is toxic to humans, but the researchers

think something similar can be found. "

The entire article can be read on-line. They say that people would have to

reduce their calories by about 30% from 2,500 to 1750 and they claim that's

too hard for most people.

On a related subject NBC's Dateline had a show about dieting last night and

Stone ended the segment with this statement: " Preliminary results

of studies done at the National Institute on Aging show that people who eat

low calorie diets may live longer. "
