Guest guest
I’m constantly amused by silly claims such as: " ...a woman should NOT go below 10 to 15%. " So what’s the percentage a woman should not go below? 10 or 15? Logic dictates 10, so why bother with the 15? One can equivalently say: " ...a woman should NOT go below 10 to 100%. " J Micky. P.S. Walford did not supply good evidence to support this weird claim. -----Original Message----- From: Suzanne Cart [mailto:massuz@...] Sent: Wednesday, September 04, 2002 8:53 AM CR Support Group Subject: [ ] Correction CORRECTION: I wrote, " Walford says a man's bodyfat should not drop below 5%, and a woman should go below 10 to 15%. Perhaps it is based (if it's based on anything ) on the minimum amount of fat for a woman to maintain what is considered normal reproductive function. When searching *lay* sources (these are not scientific articles and merely illustrate popular perception) one day I found these articles that have figures for lowest body fat: (this one is actually a pretty good article): http://www.bodytrends.com/articles/body_comp/skinnyfat.htm (this is mostly for runners I think): http://www.runnersweb.com/running/bodyfat.html pro-fat (or anti-anorexia take your pick ) lobby: http://www3.uakron.edu/schlcomm/White/reality1.htm http://www.maelstromgrafx.com/goddess/body-main.html

[MickyS replies] so the recommendation is moot, because one does not know whether she’s a 10% type or a 15% type. And it’s weird there’s only one type of male: 5%. Sorry, but this is not a serious recommendation, but I guess W really wanted to write something about bodyfat. And I agree with you that the minimum fat % is different for each individual, but again, this proves W’s recommendation is moot. <snip>
