Guest guest
Lynn, I have personally used concentrated garlic capsules to cure two infections (plantars warts on the feet (viral) and a staph aureus finger infection). The internet is full of recommendations on garlic and other herbs (goldenseal, echinacea, etc.) for infections You may want to research it. My advice is to contact an experienced herbalist in your area after you research the idea of using herbs to help you heal. And of course speak with a doctor about antibiotic treament. Make sure both your doctor AND your herbalist know of how the other is treating you. Keep in mind though that poor vascularity will affect antibiotic(and herbal) treatment of infections. Hope things work out! Ed P.S. Visualizing yourself healed has helped many people. You can imagine light going to the affected area or white cells mobilizing and destroying the infection, etc. You might want to swing by the library or go on the net and look up healing meditations/visualizations. If nothing else it can help relax you.
Guest guest
Lynn I know some ins co will cover HBOT for bone infections. When I did the HBOT for the lyme, there was a person in the chamber with me who had a bone infection from some dental problems. Her ins was paying for it. Maybe it would help the infection and lyme at the same time. Lynn Olivier <lynn_olivier@...> wrote: I was seen at - AutoImmune disease clinic two years ago and they diagnosed a reimergent EBV and gave me FamVir and some expensive B12 pills. The doctor at got very agitated in the presence of my insurance case worker when I asked if the Lyme cold still be active. She suddenly left the room and returned after talking to a colleague so I did not return after the follow-up for the EBV treatment despite still having other serious symptoms. At least 5 years ago I picked up a staff infection that settled in the bones of my face and has been periodically flaring up, causing sinus symptoms, much pain, untouched teeth to split, need root canals and 4 of them to be later pulled canals or, causing pain and even going septic. I finally went to an ENT and the second visit he cultured it the first week in January. So I have been on and off antibiotics for that too. The infection does not show up on x-rays, it does not show up on a CT and it does not show up in my blood except when I go septic. Since a culture would not pick up Lyme I always wondered if it was late Lyme still since they diagnosed syphilis in ancient South America by holes made in bone. Since the end of November I have had continuous amoxicillin for 14 days, augmentin for 20 days and I am going on my fifth week of clindimiacin 300 mg 4 times a day and a final root canal is scheduled after they followed a tunnel from the last fistula on the upper gum back to the other side of a tooth that was pulled in November after having a root canal then later the gum opened up and the infection drilled out above it. The tooth next to that one was pulled in late December 2002 and they said that the infection had been eating at the bone for at least a year then but they assumed it was probably a standard strep infection.. I went to the University teaching clinic but the professor decided he would pull the tooth and the impacted wisdom tooth behind it with students observing because of the long standing infection and the size of the teeth making the possibility of damaging healthy teeth, sinuses or even breaking the jaw a distinct possibility. It is really hard not having a LLMD available to help figure out if my Lyme is cured, dormant or still active. Vicodin is my friend but now I only take it at night because I can't drive while on it and I have a tendency to say or type whatever comes into my mind which even got me in trouble online a couple times in the last couple months. Two dentists my insurance company sent me to declined to do the root canal I currently need. Two nights ago I could feel the infection creeping into my glands on the left side of my face and tongue and warned my Aunt I might need to go to the ER if it continued to spread but I did get to sleep and when I woke up the infection had backed down to the bone again. Guest guest
I think the HBOT did/does help the lyme but it is not a cure. I go every two wks for maintance dives. I don't know how, but this place is getting my ins. to cover this. :-) It really helps with my brain function and energy. Guest guest
Lois- Are you asking for curiosity or practical application ? I didn't know that you were involved in running a chamber. The protocol is different depending on which type of osteo you are treating. Your medical professional should be able to establish what you are treating and then decide on the protocol. Otherwise look at the uhms for the research and traditionally accepted methods. Guest guest
Hello Jay, Your are right Jay, I am not involved in running a chamber. I am a mother of a 26 yr old spastic cp quad. What I do though, is tell anyone and everyone I can that might benefit from HBOT. If I can be a facilitator, and help get some one into treatment that might help them, I do. I just read a story in the local newspaper about a policeman that was injured on the job about a year ago, when he was hit by a drunk driver. He has had multiple surgerys, therapys, rods in his leg, and as the news paper said a nagging bone infection. This policeman is having to fight to get his pension. He was first only awarded only half of his pension, because of the way the medical reports were interpreted. (that is another story). I have been trying to get in touch with this man through the newspaper reporter to give him some information about HBOT as a possible treatment. (Since his Drs. haven't recommended it to him). So, I guess you could say, I was asking out of curiosity. I try to be as informed as possible when I talk to somebody. I would love to work at a chamber some day. If you will indulge me, I have a nother story. Earlier this year, I saw a story on the local news about a woman that has a 16 yr old daughter with very bad seizures. The seizures started when she was 7 yrs. old. Over the years the girl lost alot of her motor control. She could not talk, difficulty walking, tube fed, and many seizures a day, despite all kinds of seizure meds. I think I was instrumental in getting this girl into HBOT. Today, she is eating by mouth, walking better, becoming more verble, and best of all has only had 7 seizures since April and has had her meds reduced. Her mom and I have become good friends now. The girl has just finished 80 treatments. I really appreciate your help and I learn alot from your post. Thanks again, Lois Bowen-AZ (former Texan) LOIS BOWEN trojan@... Why Wait? Guest guest
Lois- What you are describing sound like a straightforward chronic refractory osteomyelitis which if one of the covered indications and therefore should be paid by all insurance companies. The protocol which we use here is 40 fsw or 2.21 ATA for 90 minutes. The total quantity can vary from 20 (very rare) to 60+ (more common). Some patients require up to 100 for this condition. Fortunately HBOT is a non-invasive method to deal with the osteomyelitis whereas typically the surgical approach would be suggested by most practitioners. Also, combining the use of proper antibiotics and HBOT is the correct method of treating osteo. Here is where we see a wonderful synergistic effect between the two. Best of luck to your officer. Guest guest
Jay, Then how about protocol for brain injured child with osteomyelitis? Our daughter Rosita is 8 yo, yet she heights 95 cms, weights 17 kgs. So far we've done 155 sessions of HBOT for her brain injury (1.5 ATA, 1 hour). She is bone abnormality (bone within bone) osteopetrosis. Literature says that it's highly possible for osteopetrosis to develop osteomyelitis. This osteomyelitis happened in her upper front right gum (maxilla). Any input would be really appreciated. Guest guest
Grace- The treatment for osteomyelitis would be the same regardless of where the infection is located. It is necessary to have a pre-existing (documented) diagnosis of osteomyelitis before beginning treatment. Talk to your practitioner where you are currently receiving treatment, they should be able to help. -Jay Jay A Rain, DMT, CHT Director South Coast Hyperbaric Medicine & Wound Care Center 3 Professional Park Drive Webster, Texas 77598 281.554.8848 " He Heals most Successfully those in which he has the most confidence " - Galen [ ] Re: Bone Infection Could someone let me know what the protochol is for treating a bone infection. Guest guest
Hi Jay, thanks for the response. I guess you're prety occupied with victims of Katrina nowadays. We've gone through long way to diagnose whether it is osteomyelitis or not. MS CT Scan with few times reconstructed different slices, multiple fistles on her right maxilla, going to orthopedic, 2 mouth surgeon, many pediatrics, 2 radiologist to confirm her MSCT result....(pheww...) The mouth surgeon advised us to have surgery to remove the infected bone from Rosita's maxilla. When we consulted her orthopedic (Rosita is congenitally osteopetrosis - bone within bone resulted in her bone to be easy to get fracture) he advised us to if possible not go for surgery as removal of the infected bone might cause other bone to also be fractured. So here we are now, in the process of giving 2 weeks antibiotics to kill both aerob and anaerob bacteria. I guess the result will be optimized by having HBOT at the same time. Rosita is quite sensitive to anesthesia, usually recovered unsmoothly pasca surgery. Too bad that doctors here are not really familiar with HBOT. While our HBOT doctors will surely knows very well about the protocol for osteomyelitis, anyway they are not really familiar with protocol for osteomyelitis for BRAIN INJURED CHILD. So far we've done 155 sessions of HBOT protocol for her brain injury (she is 8, blind, non verbal, hydrocephalus, VP shunt implant, very small regarding her peers, 90 cms, weight 17 kgs) with 1.5 ATA for 60 mins per sessions. Then if we want to cure this osteomyelitis with combination of antibiotics and HBOT, what protocol do you think will be safe for her? Sorry to bother you with this complex question. Hope to hear from you. Grace [ ] Re: Bone Infection Could someone let me know what the protochol is for treating a bone infection. I'm assuming it would be different from the Neuro protochol. Guest guest
Dear Grace, patients with such a double diagnosis should not be treated with the protocol for osteomyelitis. It will create problems in the sensitized brain, most probably. What you can do is treat with the highest tolerable pressure/concentration, together with antibiotics and systemic enzymes (Wobenzym N, for instance) to foster the penetration of the antibiotic in the infected site, and for anti-inflammation. Other biological antinflamm remedies may be used, but . Selamat tinggal. Guest guest
There is a long history (over 200 years) of homeopathy being used successfully in bone infections. Remedies are manufactured under the direction of the FDA and do not interfere with conventional medicine. To find a practitioner, put National Center for Homeopathy in your search engine. Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for all your response. Anyway Ignacio and Barb, I live in Indonesia. Perhaps that makes more difficult to find homeopathy. Is there any certain brand of homeopathy that you suggest, along with the name of the ingredients? I don't understand what you mean by " systemic enzymes (Wobenzym N, for instance) to foster the penetration of the antibiotic in the infected site, and for anti-inflammation " . We've been using enzymes for her digestion so far, I don't understand what you mean by systemic enzymes. Could you enlighten me on that? What is the different with biological anti-inflammation remedies? Grace Re: [ ] Re: Bone Infection Good point. I did a search using " Malaysia homeopathy " . Guest guest
Sorry, Grace. I forgot. So much time, and bahasa2 are similar, that is why... I would suggest -Heel from Germany or the US, and BHI, from the US. Systemic enzymes are also oral, but their effect is systemic (whole body) They are enteric-coated, so they are not inactivated by the gastric acids. The tablets only open in the thin bowel, where the enzymes are absorbed into the blood. Their effect is anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and against immune complexes. Antibiotics can penetrate deeper into the infected site, because of the anti- inflamm properties of these enzymes. MS is one of the indications, so the effect in neurological conditions is known. By biological anti-inflamm remedies I mean complex homeopathic formulas, like Traumeel, BHI-Injury, OsteoHeel, BHI-Bone, etc. They promote a modification of the biological response by informing the body, not by a pharmacological effect. Again, sorry for moving you to the peninsula. Ignacio On Tue, 06 Sep 2005 04:24:02 -0300, Grace Pelawi <mathilda@...> wrote: > Hi, > > Thanks for all your response. Guest guest
In the US, the main manufacturing companies for homeopathy are Boiron (French company, very large), Standard Pharmacy, Boericke & Tafel, and Washington Homeopathics. You can also purchase from Ainsworth, Helios and , three companies in England. I am not familiar with the use of combinations - as my training and experience is in choosing/using one remedy at a time - the so called " classical method " . Homeopathy is used around the world, with identical remedies (using Latin names) and manufacturing, since the method was set out in 1810 by Hahnemann. Most companies ship around the world. Best to buy a beginner book to learn a little about the system prior to connecting with a practitioner if that is possible - since the concepts and indications are very unlike conventional " allopathic " medicine. Two large book distributors in America are " The Minimum Price " and " Homeopathic Educational Services " . They both have beginner sections in their book catalogue. There are thousands of books on this subject so some guidance through the catalogue descriptions is good. I looked for links using " Indonesia homeopathy " and " Indonesia homoeopathy " as it is spelled both ways. Many links were in languages other than English, especially German! Also, I am not good on geography, so perhaps would not recognize nearby locations. Recommend that you search and sift through - hoping something is close to you. There is a clinic in Bali - but I looked on the map and Indonesia is vast - not sure what would be convenient to you and could not find a general list of practitioners. Guest guest
Dear Grace, -Heel and BHI (sister companies) have a site: www.heelbhi.com The Practitioner´s handbook -to download- is on http://www.heelbhi.com/prac_handbook.html When you determine which one you want, you could either google the names and choose a distributor, or have your practitioner set an account up with them. http://www.heelbhi.com/prac_setting_up_account.html or a personal account - OTC remedies, only- http://www.heelbhi.com/retail_current_promotions.html Wobenzym N is made by Mucos-Pharma (Germany)and Naturally-Marlyn (US). Components: Trypsin,Chemotrypsin, Rutin, Papain, Bromelain, enteric-coated. Several distributors offer the 800-tablets bottle at less than $100, in the US. I hope that this may be of help. Guest guest
Dear Ignacio, our doctor here suggests excelase as systemic enzyme; components: sanaktase, proktase, olipase, meiselase, pankreatin. Can it substitute Wobenzyme? Right now I'm thinking how to get these systemic enzymes and anti inflammation remedies as soon as possible as Rosita has been taking antibiotics for 6 days, scheduled for 14 days. I guess the result will be optimized when they are given at the same time, do you think so? Grace Re: [ ] Re: Bone Infection >> >> Good point. Guest guest
Dear Grace, the formula seems to be, like Wobenzym, an anti-inflammatory enzymatic cascade. It might work the same, but I am only familiar with the German formula. The very suggestion of your practitioner seem to support the concept, and I have seen that in Indonesia is used as an antinflamm, anti-rheumatic, etc. more than a digestive remedy... similar usage. The homeopathic and metabolic remedies are synergistic among them and with HBO. The combination may do a lot of good, sparing your girl some of the expected huge antibiotics dosage. By the way, I don´t know what they are using for the osteomyelitis, but in my hospital here (pediatric) our vice-chief of Infectology -strictly allopathically oriented, but a good infectologist, indeed.- suggests Baktrim at high dosage (12mg/ kg every 12 hours), for such a case, and agrees about adding Wobenzym N to the picture. Baktrim has its indications, but it should not be used lightly. Indeed, I don´t like this remedy too much, and would first try the others, but sometimes... Perhaps your doctor also agrees about this. Wobenzym is prescription a remedy here, but in the US it is classified as an OTC supplement. Myself,I would also use it in combination with the other things, at least for a while, and with low HBO. Mudah-mudahan berjaya. Guest guest
Dear Grace, I know that some practitioners will insist on the osteomyelitis being treated first, that is, disregarding the basic neurological condition. After all, osteo is an accepted indication, and neuro is not... I believe that this would be a gross error. To use the protocol for osteomyelitis in this case would amount to treating a bone, and not a whole person that is enduring a touchy pre-existing condition. A neurologically affected patient would not tolerate those concentrations, pressures and treatment spans. As you will be using a multiple approach, and there is a history of hyperbaric treatments I would keep doing what you already know is not harmful: 1.5ATA/100%/60 minutes. As for the adenoids, many homeopathic practitioners will tell you that remedies like Baryta Compositum, Barium Compositum and other single remedies can make adenoids shrink. Surgery cannot really cure the condition: oftentimes they return, unfortunately. Best regards. Ignacio On Tue, 06 Sep 2005 22:49:25 -0300, Grace Pelawi <mathilda@...> wrote: > Ignacio, thanks.
