Bob: According to my " Vitamin Bible " by Earl Mindell, some good sources for

zinc are wheat germ, brewer's yeast, pumpkin seeds, eggs, nonfat dry milk

and ground mustard. (Other sources listed that CRONIES may want to avoid or

not eat too much of are: round steak, lamb chops, pork loin). Funny that

there's no mention of oysters, which as most of us know is a superior source

for zinc.

I've taken to doing what Bob Cavanaugh does: eat an oyster every now and

then with my salad (although I also eat a fair amount of brewer's yeast ).

Bob Apple wrote:

I've noticed that it is difficult to get enough Zinc when following the CR

diet (at least for what I choose to eat). There is a big link between Zinc

and testosterone levels. I've even read articles that Zinc supplementation

can increase testosterone levels to that comparable to low dose anabolic

steroids. I don't know if this is actually the case, but as I've began to

supplement Zinc, I've gain significant weight (Ouch!!!), but have lost a

significant amount of fat (Hurray!!!). Oh yeh, and my own testosterone

levels have significantly increased.

I'm not into body building, and started taking Zinc because I noticed over

an extended period of time I was low in this nutrient. I wasn't planning

for these physiological changes, but they seem to just pop up, and were

abrupt enough that I took notice. The only other supplement I've ever

taken that has as abrupt a change was Lipoic Acid. More energy!!!!

Just general input. Hope it helps someone.

I am in California and my Doc told me specifically NOT to take Zinc. Does anyone have any information about this? The other minerals are fine she said. But Zinc does not HELP, MS hurts it. How, I don't know. I"m still investigating trying to find a multivitamin to take daily.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Zinc is very important for us too.

I take that daily through a port.

I would suggest you go take a minerals tests to see what your body is

laking.

I do monthly and mostly impotant is

magnesium and Potassium and Calcium and many more.

B's 5+6 are important

Vit B12

Vit K

Vit D

Multi Vit

Folic Acid

Selenium

Melybdenum (cant spell it)

many others if your interested but these are the ones i can think of

offhand.

Do test your blood and see what's lacking

Magnesium is heaven for my muscles

I was told to not take Echinacea and also heard to stay away from too much

vitamin C.

I think the Zinc falls into the same keep the immune system weak attitude

category. My understanding is that with LDN working for us it is best to

do all we can to make the immune system work as properly as it can!

I did mention taking a blood test to check your levels first.

Nothing should be added without the doctor's permission first.

But I use all of them

Echinacea is not something I use or am allowed to use.

Everyone is different.

Hope it helps you.

Vitamin C is my main thing and have to have

as I have said before I am on all those but not yet on LDN

I have not heard as what to do if LDN is added yet.

Guess as usual I will always be told and double check by my doctor.

Thanks for the tip

and yes LDN is meant to do all you need from those except Magnesium

Hi Mira,

Dr. Bilari asked me to tell him supplements I was taking.. he told me

to stay on all the supplements, like B6, Vit. C, B12, Zinc, Vit. E,

Vit. D, Calcium, Spirulina and Evening Primrose oil.. and probably

some others I'm not thinking of right now <grin>. Anyway, I'm sure

your doc will advise you as well :)

Take care,

Thanks Janis

I thought so too. They have a list both of them of what I have been

taking daily, and so far none of them said anything actually increased

my Calcium.

So I think there isn't any problem with what you take alternative wise.

The only problems that are known is that one should not DRINK ALCOHOL

or take any kind of OPOIDS

(heroin based medicines) with naltrixone.

Hi Phil,

Yes, Alcohol not in the category of drugs like morphine, etc..I asked

a couple of questions about things like that.. I asked if it would

hurt anything if I had a couple of beers and he said no problem as far

as LDN is concerned. I also asked him about smoking some marijuana,

because that supposed to help spasticity, and he said no problems

there either.

Alcohol " in general " isn't real good for people with MS, though..

Take care,

Hi Mira,

Alcohol isn't real good for anybody, certainly not for people with MS

<grin>.. though recent studies have shown that a glass of wine is good

for ya.. figures.. one class of wine, and I'm devastated :) .. I can

handle a couple of beers though, and sometimes that even helped me

walk a bit better because it relaxed the muscles in my legs.

Take care,

you're right, I can only drink 1 glass with dinner if I want to walk to

the other room or my car later... :-)

I guess I could smoke some reefer to see if that helps... I haven't done

that in a lonnnnnngggggg time so it might be interesting.

My doc told me if I lived in CA I'd qualify for medical marijuanna;

except teh Bush Administration is doing its best to shut that down.

figures...

Hi Phil,

I don't know

I don't drink but did see it on the Naltrexone site for 50mg.

Liver was tested before they started Naltrexone or any residue of

Narcotics or Alcohol. It detoxes the body right away, and person will

go into with drawl if they are using.

No idea in such low doses.

I just wanted to mention it cause I was in hospital night before last

with major seizures and fits from Talwin and Naltrexone.

Wanted to save someone the hell I went through.

Hi ya,

I think seizures are one of the side effects of talwin though.. Did

you start LDN then? I thought you were still waiting to give it a

go.. Hope it helps you if you've started it :)

I have the Doctor's recommendation required to legally have marijuana in

Maine. It has no affect concerning LDN. It does make me feel better

though. Works wonders for my knotted muscles! (especially the one in my

skull!)

Yes, Alcohol not in the category of drugs like morphine, etc..I asked<BR>

a couple of questions about things like that.. I asked if it would<BR>

hurt anything if I had a couple of beers and he said no problem as far<BR>

Ya that would make sense it would relax you.

ha ha

Glad it did. I don't drink have enough brain clogging if you know what

I mean.

I used to smoke grass too but that really hurts my muscles now and

makes me shake from head to toe quivering. So now I skip anything.

It used to help a lot.

I used to use that, but then I got stuck back home and away from my

doctors and medicines and got so much sicker that now if I take it I

shake from head to toe.

So I don't do it anymore. Yes you do qualify if you have MS. And its

meant to be good at least it was when I took it here 3 yrs ago from my

doctors prescription.

In NY it was fully approved with a lot of MS patients.

My friend used to smoke it in restaurants and cabs had a license for it.

Sadly out of a miss understanding I started with Talwin still in my

So I got seizures.

I am now still finding a way.

Can't touch LDN yet.

I was dumb and over excited!

Glad it helps

It helped me many years ago I was on it for 6 yrs.

But now my muscles are way too messed up to touch it.

Makes me shake and quiver.

Sad I sure did enjoyed it!

We are more sensitive now than we used to be.

I noticed with other medicines I had to cut back on soma for example.

I couldn't drink long ago, it really bothers me.

Can't ever keep my balance and get severe head aches even from a glass

of wine.
