I also have started some strength training after stopping for a year. I saw a segment on ABC World News tonight about it. The MD that had been testing her female patients who were into using weights swears that these women had gotten " younger " . Bone strength improved, dress size decreased, vitality improved and the women felt better in general. The strength training need not be difficult or with hard or heavy weights like men use. These were women who started in their later years, like their 70's. Benefits were accrued with light weights after only a few months with only two 40 minute sessions a week. That news segment convinced me to start again.
Guest guest
Hi Francesca, yeah, the type of workout I described is more than what can be benefical. Just low weight high repetitions will have a lot of good effects. In fact, it's such an easy way to improve major health factors. As Suzanna pointed out, especially to reduce the chance of osteoperosis for CRONies. But I think it also makes sense that if you spread caloric burning over more tissue by adding muscle without increasing caloric consumption, you could (?) be maximizing CR efficiency by reducing the amount of caloric burning per unit of body mass. But I've yet to see if I can do this after my fat hits rock bottom. http://IanGoddard.net > > Seeing this new, sleek, and cut body in the mirror is such a > > thrill! > > I also have started some strength training after stopping for a year.
