Guest guest
Bob: I agree with most of your recommendations (which are echoed in the " CR Made Easy " file in 5 easy steps), except for: 1. Including game meats (as many members have said) are fine - low fat, lots of good protein. 2. Many members have found the free software to be of great benefit to them. There's no harm in trying it (or in downloading the free demo at the Walford site and trying that before plunking down your money). Not all of us have the money to put into these tools, and for those people, the freebies are a boon. Wasn't it you who said we all have to find our own way? Personally I don't use any of the software; I like to keep things simple and I also don't want to become obsessed with food (as many CRONIES seem to become). Nevertheless I have been a successful CRONIE by all measurements and tests. 3. All new members of the support list are sent a " resources " list which includes a pointer to the main list. However, as evidenced by recent posts there, it's certainly not for everyone. on 6/22/2002 1:27 AM, papilio28570 at papilio28570@... wrote: > Hello , > > You're slim compared to others who have begun this change in > lifestyle. Perhaps range fed would be a nice compromise :-) Nowadays Fresh Fields and other health food stores sell ostrich, bison etc. No need to go shoot it yourself. My other points Bob are that people who are turned off to CR by either making it unnecessarily complicated (either software wise or " science " wise or by people on lists who are rude) don't gain anything. Keeping it simple DOES work and not just for me, but for others. Even the most intelligent people on BOTH lists agree that keeping calories low is key. Not that I'm dissing the ON part of CR but for those that worry they are " missing " something, they can always take a vitamin/mineral pill. KISS, keep it simple. Guest guest
The "ON" of "CRON" may not be significant in the short term and can be put on hold until beginners get a feel for whether they can deal with the dietary restriction part of the life style. But, and this is a big but (not a big butt), anyone seriously pursuing caloric restriction for extended periods of time needs to analyze their diet with DWIDP or some equivalent program. As several CRONies on the other list have experienced unexpected deficiencies. Taking a simple vitamin/mineral pill is one of those things that probably couldn't hurt, but should not be relied upon as a "total" solution. Deficiencies experienced by CRONies included iron and salt, not routinely supplemented and more commonly worried about when over consumed. I doubt that we have a perfect understanding of nutrition, let alone RDAs for CR. Also increases in fiber consumption etc, can affect bioavailability of nutrients so in addition to review of intake, follow-up blood testing has value. Measure twice, eat once. I applaud KISS for beginners, but deep CR should not be taken lightly. FWIW I doubt the majority of obese ad libbers are getting optimal nutrition either... rant over JR -----Original Message-----From: Francesca Skelton [mailto:fskelton@...]Sent: Sunday, June 23, 2002 7:08 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: 42 and about 80 lbs over weightBob wrote:> I didn't include game meat as I am opposed to hunting animals in the> wild. I agree that " deep " Cr in another case entirely but we're talking about newbies here who should start slowly not drastically. What the heck does FWIW mean?
