Guest guest
Hello, I'm new to the group. I read 120yr Diet in the mid 80's and played around with CRON a bit then. Now I'm 42 and about 80 lbs over weight (6' 2", 265lbs.). It seems like yesterday, well maybe last year that I was 18 yrs. old and 189 lbs. My interest in CRON is back, age has changed my perspective. Does anyone in the group have experience with starting CRON from a point of being as overweight as I am? Your perspective will be appreciated.
Guest guest
: a hearty welcome. I can't speak for the others who were just as overweight as you, but I'm sure they'll pipe up. First of all, don't concentrate on your weight. Just concentrate on slowly reducing your calories by eating healthier. The pounds will melt off. Start with the files in the left hand margin on the home page. Click " files " and start with: " CR Made Easy " . Then read the others. Just begin with the CR Made Easy suggestions for a while until you're " in the groove " . Worry about fine tuning later. We also have a chat group that meets on Monday nights at 9:15 U.S. East Coast Time that you might benefit from Let us hear from you again. on 6/21/2002 6:02 PM, Haifleigh at mjhaifleigh@... wrote: > > Hello, I'm new to the group. > > I read 120yr Diet in the mid 80's and played around with CRON a bit then. Guest guest
Hello , You're slim compared to others who have begun this change in lifestyle. First, I would get Walford's new book as it has new info in it and it would be good to refresh your memory anyway. Second, I would purchase the software too as opposed to downloading the free software because I like to be able to enter my own recipes into the data base. Third, I would make a resolution that you just aren't going to put garbage in your body anymore. Resolve yourself to eating more healthful foods with less calories. Forget beef and pork except for an occassional stir fry dinner...occassional like once a month. Start eating fish and skinless chicken...no more than one breast portion. Learn to love vegetables. Eat all you want just don't cook them too much...crisp tender. Forget potatoes, rice and pasta except occassionally...like once a week for one of those not all three. Eat a really filling nutritious breakfast to get you through most of the work day. Fourth, remember this isn't a diet, it is a permanent change in the way you eat. Fifth, don't worry about weight. Concentrate on eating healthier, the weight will take care of itself. Sixth, get a physical to have a record of your body now and to make sure you don't have any disease you should be aware of...high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, others. Seventh, check in with the web site everynight to stay connected also see the main list for more science oriented topics at: crsociety Welcome and best of luck. There's no harm in trying it (or in downloading >the free demo at the Walford site and trying that before plunking >down your money). I agree entirely Francesca. I stated that I prefer the purchased software because it is interactive, e.g. you can modify the database. It is useful to know the alternatives and reasons why others are using them. > Not all of us have the money to put into these tools, and for >those people, the freebies are a boon. They are a boon yes, but of limited benefit for the serious CRONie The Walford software only costs $67 last time I checked. Heck, I save that much in toilet paper every three months now that my body is working properly :-) > Wasn't it you who said we all have to find our own way? Yep. But it sure is nice to have some guidance along the way > Personally I don't use any of the software; I like to keep things > simple and I also don't want to become obsessed with food (as many >CRONIES seem to become). Nevertheless I have been a successful >CRONIE by all measurements and tests. I'm not doubting your word and stand in awe of your ability to get optimal nutrition without ever referring to software. I seriously doubt many others would be as fortunate as you to be able to " wing it " without developing cronic deficiencies in vital nutrients. I don't use the software as much as I used to when I first started, but when I'm trying a new recipe or new meal plan, I always crunch the numbers. > > 3. It is advisable to wear your thickest skin when in the midst of strangers, but in the long run, it is best to stay plugged into both groups even if only as a lurker.
