Guest guest
Doug, Beni imo is the most famous and `prefered` type of sweet potato here. The other type that is eaten has more of a yellowish flesh than the orange one we are used to in the U.S. There is actually a truck that goes around the neigborhood and sells roasted sweet potatos..(No I`m not kidding..) Remember the ice cream truck when you were a kid? Well here they have the `sweet potato` truck.. (grin) Both beni imo and the yellow fleshed type of sweet potato are sold by the truck. Yes I would say that sweet potato is a staple food here. Green tea is actually not a staple here - Jasmine tea is. Green tea, is of course, is available and still quite common. White miso is more common than red miso (although I prefer red miso). Yes the salt intake here is pretty high. Miso is a bit culprit. Is that the predominant type of sweetpotato eaten there?, Are the orange fleshed types available and also eaten? Is sweetpotato a staple food, like tofu, green tea, turmeric, and bonito (fish) flakes? Is red or white miso eaten most of the time? Also, I have heard that the salt intake there is fairly high. Is that true? Thanks for any answers.Doug Younkin
