Guest guest
Joanne, You mention that your weight is under 110, but what is your BMI? Percentage of body fat? Are your loved ones scared because you are on the edge of being underweight/healthy and underweight/unhealthy? One of the well-respected CR list leaders from long ago, Ben (last name escapes me), let his weight drop too low and began suffering from dizziness and fainting. His doctor was concerned about his heart, too. For low-weight, low-body fat Cronies, it can be a fine line indeed between healthy and unhealthy CR. Take care of yourself! Guest guest
> Joanne, > > You mention that your weight is under 110, but what is your BMI? 17.742 >Percentage > of body fat? I've only taken it twice. When I weighed a few pounds more it came out at 17.something and more recently it came out at 23%. Those were both bioelectrical impedance methods - go figure. Plus or minus 6% is not very accurate. I might as well just look in the mirror and hazard a guess ... If one is going to take calculated risks (CR) one at least wants reliable calculations. So thanks to this discussion I am going to see if I can get a more accurate measurement. If either of those calculations were accurate (and there is a part of me that wants the high one to be just so I can do more calorie restricting - hehe ) I could lose some more weight and still be quite safe from any anorexic like complications. As for the complications of bleeding to death in aa accident - I'm not so sure. Maybe those are purely a function of weight. >Are your loved ones scared because you are on the edge of being > underweight/healthy and underweight/unhealthy? Some people *think* I am on that edge. I am not so sure. It does occur to me that if one is on that edge though even through ad lib eating (whatever that is) they have no place much to go. They can only: 1) continue to CR further (or at all if they are ad lib thin) and lose more weight to a point where they have certain complications such as amenoria (in premenopausal females) and further complications of anorexia. I mean are we sure none of the risks of anorexia apply to us because we do AN or ON or could it be that some of them are just a function of extremely low body fat *period*? Yes I have to ask the question as I face questions like that even though I'm not even that fricken thin! 2) Stop reducing calories or don't reduct at all (if they are ad-lib thin) 3) reduce caloric expenditure through exercise etc. so they can cut calories further and not lose weight. This may well be preferable for those who are gym obsessed but if less advisable if we get minimal exercise to begin with. 4) cut calories and don't reduce exercise *without* losing much more weight to the extent that this is possible ...... Oh those ob-ob mice are the lucky ones
Guest guest
Joanne: from the recent picture of you at the S Cal meeting, you don't look at all emaciated or like the " concentration camp crowd " . Why keep discussing it with people (even those close to you) who aren't aware of the health benes of CRON? If the subject comes up, you can say: " I'm always careful to get XXXXX calories a day " , so there's no danger of anorexia. " Life is strange. I was a gawky skinny kid, always underweight and picky about what I ate. Back then, more years ago that I like admit, my mother was always trying to stuff more food into me. In those days a skinny kid was an unhealthy kid. That picky eating may have added years to my life. on 9/26/2002 9:48 PM, somejoanne2002 at bhsnz@... wrote: >> Are your loved ones scared because you are on the edge of being >> underweight/healthy and underweight/unhealthy? > > Some people *think* I am on that edge.
