Guest guest
Joanne: If I were you I would stop the binging. FWIW, I would get a few servings of red meat under my belt. Or organ meat like Liver (for the iron benefits) . In fact I've been trying to get some red meat in my diet at least once a month. Variety and all that........... on 9/19/2002 9:35 AM, somejoanne2002 at bhsnz@... wrote: > I'm probably worrying too much about a minor matter but .... > > I have to donate blood in a couple of days for someone I know. .... Guest guest
I donated blood in New York about a year ago during the WTC disaster. I felt extremely week, somewhat short of breathe, and felt my heart was pounding very hard in my chest and had chest pain, all similar simptons of a bout with viral pericarditis I had 6 monthes prior. I went to the doctor, who does not pay attention to any description of the CRON diet I try and discuss with him and who A) insisted the blood donation had nothing to do with the symptons, insisted pericarditis does not reaccur and C) suggested I was probably experiencing stree from September 11th (which I disagreed with). A few monthes later, about the time that I was able to donate blood again according to the red cross, I felt myself. I do not for sure if donating blood affected my health but I am pretty sure it did. I tossed out my yearly reminder to donate blood again this year. Just one CRONNies experience.. Guest guest
I donate blood regularly, that is at least twice a year. No side effects, and I even workout the day after, or even same day, and I’m fine. I’m 172# though. If you’re underweight, then I would say do not donate. Note that they test blood iron levels and reject you if you’re too low. Ditto for blood pressure, which is low for us CRONies, so they just wanna make sure that the reading they got is what I expect (100-70). My guess is also that you are likely to feel bad due to the placebo effect. I mean, you’re already binging… Micky. -----Original Message----- From: somejoanne2002 [mailto:bhsnz@...] Sent: Thursday, September 19, 2002 6:35 AM Subject: [ ] CRONies donating blood? And it is probably a mere superstition of mine but in the last few days I've been eating more - binging really - so that I would I have the " strength " or whatever. I'm not sure this is really necessary though. ly at this point I'd rather just be back on a CRON plan or as close as I can get to one. However difficult CRON may seem at the time - it's far more enjoyable. I wonder whether CRONies are well equipted to donate blood. I am not in the demographic that tends to have excess iron certainly - although I have never yet had anemia either. And though far from the thinnest or most extreme CRONie I am under the weight limit of what they want you to be to give blood. They want you to weigh 110 pounds and I weigh in at 100 w/out clothes. (And no I am not trying to gain 10 pounds in a few days ) - just hoping I dont' get too weak after donating. Yes I have donated before and to strangers when I weighed a bit more - like 108.
