Other definitions are:

volvulus. n. Abnormal twisting of the intestine causing obstruction

a) The spasmodic contraction of the intestines which causes colic.

( Any twisting or displacement of the intestines causing obstruction; ileus.

A word of caution: consuming very large amounts of fiberbetween meals in the form of processed material like guar gum can cause sigmoid volvulus (huh??? you ask, what the heck is that....) a twisting andimpaction of the colon.
