since May. I know some of you are eating oysters to

insure your zinc

------------------------------------------------

Not long ago there was an internal medicine physician

who died from eating raw oysters at a restaurant about

a mile from where I work. After eating the oysters,

he died within 2-3 days, even though he got prompt

medical attention and was in the intensive care unit.

Also, I personally have seen patients who have

sustained great harm from eating raw oysters. Some of

my patients are wound care patients. I haven't read

the article which Francesca left the URL for, but

there are very many cases of an aggressive strep

infection which result in a condition called

necrotizing fasciitis. Fascia is a sheet or band of

fibrous tissue. Necrotizing fasciitis involves deep

fascia, which envelopes muscles and various organs of

the body. Necrotizing fasciitis aggressively attacks

the deep fascia and creates life threatening

infection. This condition requires prompt surgery to

open up the area and allow for copious

cleansing/lavage, and then dressing (with some sort of

bandaging). It also requires IV antibiotic treatment.

It can attack the legs, arms, abdomen, pelvic area,

etc. It is one of the worst infections you can get.

Needless to say, I don't eat raw oysters---as a matter

of fact I wouldn't eat any oyster, period.

Certainly there are other good sources of zinc out

there.

About a month ago I purchased a zinc picolinate

supplement, 22 mg, which I take, but not daily,

because 22 mg. is too much for a daily intake, since

it doesn't include the zinc from your diet.
