I thought the idea that lighter ad libbers need less restriction needs serious consideration. By what definition is 1800 calories ad lib 30% CR? " Hi Al: glad you questioned this. If you don't agree, we may need some healthy debate. My figure of 1800 cal was an estimate; the writer said she was now eating 1200 cal. 1200 subtracted from an estimate of 1800 ad lib= 600 cal less on CR. That would be 1/3 less cal. or about a 30% restriction. Of course many of us have no idea what we were eating ad lib since we never tracked our cal before CR Here are a couple of references from BT120YD. 1) slender people should lose less: pg.228 reduce your caloric intake......until you are 10 to 25% below whatever your set point is for body weight (10% if your set point and BMI place you as already slender, 25% if obese) 2) discussion of % restriction: pg 49....At 10% caloric restriction ... diet extended max lifespan (of mice) to 43 months, and at 50% restriction (corresponding to something close to a 1200 to 1500 cal CRON diet in a human male of avg size) to more than 54 months....... 3) another interesting reference that I thought I'd throw in on pg 137: Clearly it's calories that count. .......Keep the calories down and the diet nutrient dense and you will.....slip into the CRON adaptive response
