Guest guest
Detoxing from food is not very questionable - see http://www.beyond- dieting.com. I know it sounds kind of hokey, but I have a very good friend who had the most bizarre symptoms before this program (I wouldn't believe the whole thing if I hadn't seen what it did for her), and there is a group of people in my area who are also involved with this program. It is related to http://www.beyondfibromyalgia.com/ which is now the more serious website devoted to fibromyalgia. Dr. Bates, who set up these programs found that fibromyalgia sufferers were more motivated than weight loss dieters, and now devotes most of his time to the fibromyalgia side. See also http://www.alcat.com - yeah, it sounds hokey too, but I know people who have pleaded with their doctor to be tested for food allergies, and had it poo-pooed by their doctor, only to discover via elimination diets that they were allergic to what they suspected. If anything helps identify a particular sensitivity, without the full elimination diet, people will be more likely to pursue it thereafter. Especially if they're not displaying 'classic' food allergy symptoms. Was it Francesca who's allergic/sensitive to Brazil nuts? As for detoxing from food - trust me, most people who are coffee drinkers (or heavy cola drinkers) will experience awful symptoms when getting off caffeine. The last time I gave it up resulted in a 4 day headache that NOTHING could touch - pretty similar to a sinus cold headache, but nothing relieves it, other than 'the hair of the dog', and even that is not immediately effective. Hmmmmm..... sounds just like the message that started this thread. I had given it up before when I found I got a headache on Saturday/Sunday because most of my coffee drinking was at work, and not on weekends. I had eased back into it, and found myself back in the same situation, and gave it up for good. I can drink caffeinated coffee, even at night, without it keeping me awake (other than the need to go to the bathroom) - but the headaches when I don't get it are not worth the trouble, and could be triggered on the weekends by sleeping in (I normally get up at 5 - sleeping in is 7ish). So when I do drink coffee these days, its decaf - water process decaf when I make it at home. A sudden switch from a junk diet to one without caffeine and sugar will absolutely do in someone who is used to both - caffeine headache combined with poor blood sugar control.
