Hue: By seaweed sheets, I assume you mean " nori " a highly desirable food

and one recommended by Walford. Was this a one night occurance? Because

perhaps it was a coincidence or perhaps for some reason you're allergic to

it. I would be suspicious that it wasn't for some other reason, especially

since you're reluctant to repeat the " experiment " .

Also Hue: how much nori did you eat? Was it your first try at eating any?

I use small amounts (only) in soups and stews. BTW, nori is what is used to

wrap sushi. The outer band of greenish " skin " that holds the sushi

together....

Nori (identified in DWIDP as Lavar) is indeed a delicious way to get a dose of sodium, which in my house Chele and I unfortunately eat to excess! Just a little side note, I once had a doctor indicate that some routine blood test showed that I had a thyroid marker that was reflective of borderline Hyperthyroidism. After doing some research, it occurred to me that perhaps our high seaweed intake was simply making iodine readily available (or maybe too available) pushing my markers up. When I eliminated Nori from my diet and re-took the blood test, the thyroid markers were back to mormal. Could have been a coincidence, but while on the subject of Nori, I thought it might be something for our Nori crunching members to note and track. Have a great Sunday, Dave

The product was seaweed sheets, about 6 x 2 inches in size, flat black

crispy

sheets, but the name of the product eludes me right now, maybe the trade

name

was " Party Soba " ?

I am thinking it was not coincidence - as i experienced leg cramps over

several days-

roughly the length of time i had the package around before i finished it.

The correlation " seems " there. The next step, would be to try this again.

This is the

same process i have used over the years to gradually eliminate troublemakers

from

my diet. Since these experiments involve bringing on unpleasant effects

willfully,

they aren't that much fun. I don't right now feel like redoing the sodium

experiment,

but perhaps i will try a rematch in several weeks. I don't think of this

effect as a

classic allergic type reaction. I am very curious as to whether anyone else

with

occasional leg cramps at night could connect this to sodium intake.

Probably a limited use of this product, as you use in other foods, would be

harmless.

If i have something tasty around here, however, i tend to overdo it. So i

basically

just don't buy anything that has questionable effect in large amounts. The

basic foods

i do have around are pretty much low calorie and low-on-the-food-chain

items, so

they are pretty harmless in any amount, and also devoid of the addictive

ingredients,

sugar and salt.
