Hey folks,

This is the internet. There are hackers. There are tons of ways anyone can

get all kinds of information about you and your family. Identity theft

should come to mind as a huge and growing problem. Emails and postings to

listserves are easy prey--regardless of it being a so-called " closed " or

" private "

list. It doesn't take a verbatim re-print either--anyone could mention or

paraphrase to anyone else what you have posted on a listserve. I have received

accurate and revealing information in exactly that manner without ever

seeing the exact post.

So, don't ever put any information in writing on the internet that you do

not feel comfortable with--just assume that the last person you want to view it

may at some point do so. You simply cannot control, with the best of

security, that what goes into an internet site will stay there.

Very true. I occasionally receive private email from people that

starts like this: " Hi Dana, I am xxxx, I received this message you

posted, which was forwarded to me by someone I know. " Etc.

You never know where something will go, which is why I never post

anything anywhere that I would not mind being sent everywhere and

anywhere. It is rude and impolite to forward things without the

author's permission, but it happens nonetheless. And so, I never post

anything that I don't mind being passed along. Plus my full name

never shows up anywhere.
