The ACSM recommends vigorous aerobic activity "most" days of the week and weight lifting at least twice a week. If you're training the entire body each session with "moderate" weights, you wouldn't want to do it more than 3 times a week. Best rule of thumb, if you're sore from the last weight session, wait another day.

Realistically, there are individual differences. Experiment with 2 or 3 times a week and see what works for you. Remember too that overdoing it will increase your appetite, so if that's a concern, enough exercise is enough.
