But I'll be interested in hearing what others come up with, since presumably these would be the foods we should all be eating! ***ARE these the foods we should presumably all be eating? That's one of the questions that started me thinking along these lines. When we talk of limited access to a variety of foods, I think of the Biosphere...and all those sweet potatoes, not Total cereal of cans of Ensure. We don't often consider how CIRCUMSTANCES influence our food choices. In this country, most of us have access to the whole smorgasboard. What if our access to food is limited... I mentioned earlier the college campus scenario. One of my sons is attending a U.S. military academy. He isn't permitted to leave campus. He must eat in the mess hall, quickly, and worse than that--he isn't allowed to LOOK at his food. They have to keep their eyes "in the boat" (meaning straight ahead) and they have to "square their food" (meaning that their forks must travel from plate to mouth in straight lines, no curves.) He tells me the food "isn't bad--what you can catch of it." (Mash potatoes are a big hit with him because he can whomp them around on his plate and stick other foods to them for transport to the mouth.) Remember when they used to teach that cow's milk was a "nearly perfect food?" Nowadays that notion is highly disputed. Nevertheless, I keep telling my son in my letters to, "Drink the milk, drink the milk. Less mashed potatoes. More MILK." Isn't EVERYTHING relative??? Anyway, I'm not exactly sure how all of this relates to CRON. But it started me thinking about how our circumstances can truly affect our ability to do a CRON diet. An occasional dinner out is one thing, but what do you do if you travel constantly? Or this...the perfect CRON diet...shipwrecked on a deserte island...there you go!
