Hi Everyone,

We've been on cod liver oil for a long time... Would it be beneficial to add

in EFAs as well? Can anyone tell me the difference? Any specific type of EFAs

recommended?

Thanks -- :-)

,

Cod Liver Oil (Nordic Naturals) for my son brought eye contact and

vocalization and increased his use of consonents. It has Omega 3, and bit of

Omega 9 from Oleic acid. However based on still low EFA levels (ION Test) we

added Pro-EFA (also by Nordic Naturals) which in addition has Omega 6.

We kept the CLO because of naturally accuring Vit A and many of our kids are

so deficient in EFAs that they can benefit from both eventhough for general

population this maybe a bit much.

Thanks! Actually Nordic Naturals CLO is what we use now. I heard about the ION

test, I think that it is in our near future...

ION test includes the Amino Acid panel and then they send your child's result

to Metabolic Maintenance which then you can order the custom Amino Acids from.

Ion would also show your child's EFA levels and deficiencies.

Best and I send your child my healing wishes and vibes.

Absolutely, it would be. Here are the essential fatty acid in two

ProEFA softgels, which is what Ben gets every morning:

Omega 3s

EPA 270 mg

DHA 180 mg

Other Omega 3s 115 mg

Total Omega 3s 565 mg

Omega 6s 224 mg

GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid) 66 mg

Omega 9s

Oleic Acid 160 mg

This is purified from deep sea fish from anchovies and sardines and

third-party tested for mercury and organic pollutants.

Here's what is in a tsp of Carlson's CLO, which is what I happen to

have at the moment:

Each tsp contains 1100 mg to 1250 mg Omega 3 fatty acids including

DHA 500 mg to 590 mg

EPA 340 mg to 500 mg

ALA (alpha linolenic acid) 40 mg to 55 mg.

Of course the CLO is from cod liver so it also contains Vitamin A and

D which are not in the ProEFA. Both have small amounts of vitamin E

added as a preservative.

You will notice that the ratios of essential fatty acids are quite

different.

Peace,

Kathy E.

CLO is Omega 3 plus vitamin A and D. If you want other Omegas, you

can add a multi-EFA. I used flax oil, others have used other

combinations.
