Is drinking coffee in moderation unhealthy for you? Sometimes I

crave a cup of joe :) I probably have 5 cups of coffee a week. If

this is harmfull then I will quit, but I do enjoy it. I drink green

tea daily too.

Thanks.

NG: (name?) Au contraire about coffee! We recently had a thread on the

benefits of moderate coffee drinking. Use the search box on the main page

and type in: " caffeine " for the thread. It's thought to possibly help

prevent: Parkinson's, Alzhiemer's, skin cancer and one member swears that

it aborts her migraines. At the very least moderate amounts do not seem to

be harmful.

See: /message/4178

for one of the messages in the thread. There are many other.

To those examples I would also like to add this study:

Point 4

Speculative, but interesting. Caffeine makes you

smarter?

What's considered moderate here? I drink maybe 5 or 6 cups a day which is

probably just around average in Scandinavia. Is there any reason for me to

cut down my consumption?

Ake: I would ask you to consider this: Moderation and Variety. Why chance

it? Why not be moderate in any one food (beverage) and try to add variety?

You never know when they'll discover that too much coffee causes some bad

condition that we didn't know about.

Substitute green tea for some of that coffee. And one of those 5 or 6 cups

could be one of those serving size cans of V-8 juice (they even make it in a

low/no salt variety). I used to drink two cups of coffee a day. I cut back

by making myself a 1/2 and 1/2 cup each time (1/2 coffee - 1/2 skim milk).

So it " feels " like I'm drinking my two cups but I painlessly cut my

consumption in 1/2 while getting a bit more calcium in my diet.
