Guest guest
Hi Becca, My 19 year old son is hypoglycemic, which hardly makes me an expert, but he has the same symptoms you've described and has been officially diagnosed as hypoglycemic. He leads a very physically active life and it hasn't stopped him at all, but he MUST be careful to eat before he gets too hungry. He has found that emphasizing protein and low GI carbs is very important. He doesn't do too well with sweet fruits, most breakfast cereals, and stuff like candy and Coke make him really sick. He keeps emergency snacks in his pocket. He's at a military academy, so it's impossible to eat just whenever he feels like it, and equally impossible to keep much in the way of real food in his briefcase. We learned through a little research that the standard old-fashioned MetRx bars have the lowest GI rating of all the so-called energy or protein bars on the market, so he keeps one of those available in his brief case and says they work just fine for him. Oddly enough, he is INTERESTED in starting CR at a young age, meaning SOON, but I doubt he'll ever be very successful at it given his hypoglycemia. I might suggest you keep Sherm's mega-muffins handy. I would do this for my son if he had refrigeration. Suz
